I got my JDM headlights installed however something is not right with the lights... for the passenger side the car harness is black/yellow, yellow/blue and Red

for the HID ballast I would only need to hook up Black/yellow and Yellow/blue right? If so the light never comes on with the car on or off.

I'm confused...

Also something else happened I turned the headlight on (only had driver side connected) the HID did turn on but I turned it off for some reason and waited a few and turned it back on and it wont turn on anymore and the Hi beam on the dash lights up dimly.

The connections are connected the right way as far as low beam only.

EDIT

turns out the 15A fuse popped because I was trying to run the HID ballast and the Hi beam off the same curcuit.. but I don't see any other way to connect it?

I will draw how I connected it when I get home.

best way to avoid any of these kinds of issues? Run a separate harness for your HID. Use the low beam connection in the plug as the trigger.

yes from the battery to the HID ballasts with the switch being one of the low beam headlight plugs. You only need to do this for the HID's.

Yes, do NOT run HID's off the stock harness, you can get a relay harness that draws from the battery off ebay for less than $20 shipped, or you can make one with a relay and some wire. The only use for the stock harness is to draw power to activate the relay when using a separate harness.

my legacy is a 1995 and I don't remember seeing a orange wire for the stock harness.

Sorry, I jumped the gun and assumed it was a BE.

forgot to ask this will keep my low beams on with the highs on?

ground your lows to chassis directly, don't use the plug.

Wished I picked up some extra wire I wonder if I can use the wires from these fog lights that were put in made by Piaa. I have wire but way too thin to use on a car electrical.

question I still have not set my high beams up nor my HID to a relay.. I hope this weekend I can knock all that out and my exhaust at the same time.. some questions I have to ask..

Do I need to use a fuse inline with the relay?

On the relay which connections do I need to use?

And as far as the High beams just ground the ground to the body and use the red for the high beam right?

Use a fuse from the battery to the relay, and from the switch to the relay.

You don't want to ground the high beam wire, that will make the high beams come on all the time, instead, ground the low beam wire. Its yellow I believe. As far as the relay, there should be a diagram on google somewhere.

got me through my install. I grounded the yellow low beam sires so they low beams (thus HIDs) wont kick off when you turn on the highs. The downside however is if you flash your high beams at someone in the daylight the lowbeams will now come on also.

Thanks, I forgot all about that thread..

well I went to pick up the parts today only to see I brought a mini fuse holder and not the normal sized one.. grrr... not sure if I should return it and get the normal sized fuse holder (I already brought 20A fuses) or buy mini fuses...

I brought two toggle switches one is a rocker switch that lights up blue and the other is green.

and if I view the thread right I have to use my new switch to turn on the hi beams right?

no, just wire your high beams straight to the plug if you're still using regular halogen bulbs for them. They will turn on with your old headlight stalk.

hmm that's what I don't get maybe worrior used a switch for independent fogs?

foglights need to have a switch regardless of independent to the parking lights or not. What is it that you're planning to do exactly?

I was just speaking to warrior and it seems like a relay is really not needed?

I just want to be able to have working hi beams since they are not wired up to anything.. but as you know if you turn on the hi beam it shuts off the low beams.. however I have HID's so that mean it's bad for the ballast and I need to wait for them to warm up again depending on how long I drive with the hi beams on.

for the fog light I don't care since that is the easy part to do..

the HID's right now are still connected to the stock relay and I want to move them to the battery.

Once you get your relay for your harness, you will need to ground the low beam wire to the chassis or negative battery terminal, that way, the low beam circuit stays on with the high beams.

The power and ground to activate the HID relay will come from the headlight's stock harness; specifically the low beam ground and common 12V.

Edit: Yes you need a relay to run you HID, but the most important thing is to ground that low beam wire.

I got my relay and all so I'm going to go out here and try it. I will let you know how it goes.

hmm something is not right... with the headlights off the low beams come on...

when you turn the headlights on the low beams and the Hi beams come on at the same time..

I followed the picture diagram that was posted..

my switch has 3 pins pin 1 goes to the power source (the battery) Pin 2 is going to 85 on the relay and pin 3 is going to the ground on the car.

something odd happened.. so I disconnected the wiring harness that the last owner had installed for aftermarket PIAA fog lights and I ran the hi beams off that... already has a push button inside the car and all... works good but the beam is aimed waaaay too high..

I dunno what I did wrong with the relay since i grounded it like the sheet was saying unless I messed up on the switch in the car before I decided to just use the PIAA switch...

I connected pin 2 on the switch I was going to use to the relay

the HID's are off the harness.. just using the low beam to trigger it now.

And for some reason I no longer have parking lights for the front headlights but I do for the rear.. however my turn signals still work fine for the front. :smt017

I forgot to show the switch but since I have no need for the aftermarket fogs I used the switch for them.. it was already in place and all...

fully independent and all.

I wonder if I'm a little too yellow with yellow stain paint and a yellow bulb.
