ive got a 95 lsi that the 2.2 sputtered and died on, i swapped in a 99 2.5 dohc but that blew headgaskets, ive fixed that and now it burns oil like a fat kid in a cookie factory :smt010
so... i want to get a little more horses out of my car but dont necessairly have the cash to go for a turbo engine ( plus all i find is the jdm tt 2.0 ) i have both blocks but im wondering what the best route would be to get horsepower out of it.
- would i use 2.2 heads on my 2.5 block wth 2.5 internals (walbro fuel pump needed?)
- or would 2.5 block and heads with high comp. pistons be better?

i want a little more power but i still want my car to be reliable  if thats not a good idea please let me down gently lol :smt023
thanks guys

phase I 2.5 block, pistons, and heads + ej257 headgaskets = 10.5:1 compression.

the 2.2 heads on the 2.5 block would raise compression but they don't flow very well.

why not go turbo? phase 1 ej25 block/heads/pistons with ej22 crank and rods , add a turbo setup and have fun, thats what im doing, i have ej25 block on the way , got some ej25d heads on the bench and i sourced a set of rods and crank from a 22t, now i just need to pickup an safc and s-itc and turbo setup =]

hes already got all the parts, another 400-500 and he could have it turboed, i just figured that statement meant he didnt want to buy a turbo motor or do a swap

stick with the complete 2.5

so is doing 2.2 heads even gonna be worth my time?

if you just need one car to have a running engine, sure. But if the 2.5 heads are still good, there's really no point.

i doubt u could make more power with a franken motor than u could with a near stock 2.5.

I've been driving this setup for a long time now no problems, running an EJ22T ECU. As long as you don't mind 15-18 mpg its great to daily drive.

Sorry to thread jack.
I'll be doing head gaskets on my EJ25D soon so...I could just toss in some STI head gaskets and get a little more compression?
I tried doing some research but I could fine anything on it.

Thanks

Edit: I think I found it.

According to this guy you'd want to use the 00-04 SOHC "thin gasket". That would be Fel-Pro # 26170PT
