View Full Version : 96 Legacy 4EAT @ 106k miles - Transmission slipping?!

So only at certain times and situations (Hills and tight 90 degree turns like at a stop light) I'll go to accelerate and the auto tranny seems to "Slip" - but yet it doesn't feel like a burning, bad old clutch kind of slip but a total miss of dropping the gear in.

I guess due to the mileage (I consider 100k miles too young to loose a transmission, but that's because I've owned/driven 200k mile auto/manual toyotas and honda's) and that fact that this happens with reverse too (couldn't possibly be the reverse gear, seldom use or abuse ya know...?) I am tempted to think it's something more like a fluid flush or some other sort of actuator or electrical issue than requiring a whole new transmission down the road.

So what do you think? It tends to only happen, as I said, on inclines or on tight turns and only in the first or second drive gear or reverse, never when downshifting to pass someone or speed up on a highway...

Have you checked your fluid level? Its amazing what being a little low on fluid can do to you.
