Wondering if I should sell the Outback "as-is"

I'm thinking of just posting the Outback up for $1000 with the engine/suspension the way it is. But do you guys seriously think I can get that for it if someone wants it for a parts car? It's fully loaded and everything but the motor is in good condition (interior is kinda dirty, though). What are your guys' thoughts on this? I don't really want to dump a lot of money into it just to sell it right after. Plus, I want it off my property...my mom doesn't know it yet, but I have my eye on another older Dakota pickup...hehe :grin:

you could invest the <$2000 on a motor sell the car for ~$6000. whats wrong with the suspension?

You won't sell the car for more than $2000 without an engine.

How many miles on the chassis? If its clean and lower mileage on the tranny/suspension, you could get up to $8-9k depending on the year/mileage.

If anybody can't take the time to try to clean up their car before they sell it they aren't really trying to sell it. I cleaner car is more appealing, dirt cars are signs of neglect.

You could sell your Outback as is for $1000 (you won't get that though). Or, you could invest about ~2k (give or take a few hundred) on a phase II EJ25, clean it up, and sell it for $6K. Plus, you'll have a running Outback again and it will make you appreciate it and then you can sell that big piece of "can't stop from getting stuck" you call a truck. :wink:

But seriously, I went through this with my BMW. I had to get it running to the point that made me happy before I could even consider selling it. I made a freaking giant mistake selling my BK. Looking back at it; I sold it for $400 with a perfect drivetrain but rear end damage and a bent frame. I should've kept it. But yeah, like T_F_E said, you're going to have to spend money to make money.

Post some pics and more details. Hell I'd maybe tow it out of your driveway for $1000 - Whats the body like? I'm pretty nit pic when it comes to dents & paint though. Whats messed up with the suspension?

I slid into a curb at a decent speed and bent components in the rear passenger side. I replaced the lateral link which was obviously kinked, but things are still bent and keeping the car from being aligned properly. Most likely, it’ll be best to just replace everything in there. The front suspension is also slightly tweaked but it was like that when I got it and it doesn’t affect it. It’s got 86k miles on it.

I’m almost thinking I’ll get it running and possibly keeping it since it gets such good fuel economy (I never thought I’d be saying that. :lol: ), but I do need it off my property, so I’m kind of in a pickle here, so-to-speak. It’s not for sale yet, but when it is, I’ll post it up here first. I really don’t know what to do. I kind of forgot about the car until last night when I went and sat in it and got all the food out that I kept in it. I still really like the car, but it all comes down to needs/wants. God, I do not know what to do. :cry:
