Rare?

I've only seen one set in the past year on eBay, and they went for much more than the 'regular' JDM projectors go for, BUT, I've never SEEN an actual JDM car (or one swapped here) with them on it, and was wondering if that particular model of car or these headlights even exist.

Mostly because I have a pair. Finally. And was curious about their origins.

There is no such model as a RSK or B4 or STi with 2nd generation BG/BDs. Ive never seen a set that came from the factory with black housing. Its always been a DIY job. Methinks it was just someone trying to use a gimmick to get it sold.

Here's a set. Funny thing is the black ones I got don't appear to have been opened, but the orange lens is missing from the turn signal socket. Also one of the chrome JDM lights I have it has TWO screws (one on the corner, one on top near the corner) that hold the lens on, the black JDM one only has the one on the corner. So they aren't the same, but it could be they changed from year to year.

They do look better than the all chrome ones (I think) :smt023

Those look like they were just opened up and painted black. As far as I know, no projectors came smoked.

Either way they're gonna look great (and allow me to SEE) on my beater. Might even be tempted to take the fogs apart and black them out too, or find some cheapo JDMs.

I was always under the impression that there were some that came from the factory blacked out, but perhaps I was wrong. I'm thinking about doing this myself anyways sometime soon, it looks damn fine.

Phase one complete. They're in and working.

Next step is either wiring them with the correct connectors I'm waiting for (H4/9003 male connectors to splice into the JDM headlight wiring, so I can plug them into the factory harness on the car), at which time I may wire up the "city" lights, or black out the grille, and either black out the fogs or remove them. They are pitted and yellowed pretty badly.

Then I'll decide if I'm going to continue the theme and paint the wheels black/get steelies, and maybe tint the windows.

I don't know why I'm trying to make it look pretty on the outside, bewteen the rust spots growing behind the rear wheels and all the scratches and mismatched paint, I'm not sure it's worth it.

Just a thought. You're LHD right? 'JDM' lights are RHD. You may have issues with blinding oncoming traffic, and struggling to read roadside signs at night time.

I have a JDM Impreza that managed to score itself USDM (wtf?) crystal headlights...never passed safety check with those lights because the beam pattern points in the wrong direction, and signreading could be challenging at times.

Just something to be aware of :)

i dont have any problem with my RHD cut of projectors (35degree) in my LHD. can read road signs dont blind people. plus are DOT legal  . but then i have morette's
but i never had problems with my rs-b over here with right drive roads

JDM projectors never came smoked as far as im aware. Some of the tail light turn signals were clear however.

The RSK badged models were available in BG but B4 only available BH onwards
Did you guys ever get BG legacys with HID lights?

I'm blacking out my stock housing soon. Non projectors though.

I don't think very much can get blacked out.

USDM were never made with projectors or HIDs. Another reason why the projectors are such a popular mod, the stock lighting sucks the big one.

This is a fun post. I agree with the black outs looking more custom. Some have used the Honda projectors while others have used the stock Koito projectors on the BG/BD JDM lamps. The Honda projectors have a great spread with no hotspots, while the factory projectors light up real nice, they are not perfect. With HID lamps they still get the job done. Quite nicely.
