Hi everyone,
I wanted to stop in here and introduce myself - my name's Chris and i was sent here by another member of of one of the other Impreza oriented sites.
I must confess, I don't own a Legacy, but it's little brother the Impreza Outback Sport. I'm a huge fan of pretty much any Subaru and love the community that's sprung up around the cars.
I've developed a little mod for my car that is applicable to pretty much any Subaru with the electronic 4-speed automatic transmission (4EAT). It basically allows the driver to flip a switch and "lock" the transmission into a 50/50 torque split.
If you're under the impression that your 4EAT equipped Subaru is already a 50/50 split, I'm here to bust your bubble - it's not. Not by a long shot. But that can be fixed quickly and cheaply.
I'm going to be posting a comprehensive DIY on how to build one for yourself, and with Reason's blessings will be offering to build "kits" for those that want the mod, but don't wish to crawl around their car with a voltmeter for a few hours
I don't want to clutter up this post with irrelevant info, so when the DIY is up, I'll post a link to it here.
If you're so curious that you can't wait - feel free to PM me and I can link you to the original project.

Uh oh....secret's out. I'm one of those RS guys....not anymore though.
Thanks )2edline - I'm certainly no guru, but I've learned way more than I ever thought I would about Subaru's automatic transmission.
The more I learn, the more zany ideas I come up with.
I'm pretty much going to put up an exact duplicate of the RS25 DIY here on SLi. The only holdup right now is making sure I'm not spewing out incorrect info when it comes to the Legacy. I've downloaded all the FSMs and am going through the wiring diagrams to make sure connector pinouts and wire colors are correct, or at least reasonably accurate..
Pictures are another concern - some of them carry across fine, but others could be misleading - once I get that all sorted, the DIY will be posted and y'all can get to modding.
If you've read my other DIY, then you've seen mention of the variable torque control that I'm working on - I hope to have a working prototype by the middle of April :smt023

Thanks - I try not to chime in if I don't have anything valuable to add. There are plenty of other people on other forums where you can get your fill of hot air and misinformation - especially if we're talking Subarus.
My OBS is the old skool 99 GF platform. I bought her with a spun bearing for $500. Within a week I tossed a junkyard(craigslist) 2.2 Legacy shortblock in there, fired it up, topped off the fluids, and the very next morning drove 2 hours to a Rallycross and beat on it mercilessly. It ran flawlessly and hasn't given me the slightest trouble ever since.
That's one of the MANY reasons I love my silly little Japanese econoboox

Thanks decke48 for the link - I was being lazy earlier, not to mention running late for dinner at the folks house.
So yeah, that's my humble little mod - nothing earth shattering, but very, very handy..

If you guys and gals like what I'm doing - you can all thank 2.5GT for letting me know about this site. He picked up one of my 'kits' from the RS25 thread, and is the first to install it in a Legacy. He spoke highly of this site, and said that everyone here might like it, so here I am..
BTW - Limited/2.5GT - did you get my PMs about your TCM? I think I got your wires all figured out.

I was the proud owner of a brand new Silverthorn Metallic 2.5 RS coupe back in 2000 - I loved that car, but parted ways with it it in 02/03. I did NOT like the new bugeye WRX, and the Legacy wasn't my cup of tea at the time, so I was without a Subaru from 03 to mid-08. I was so happy to stumble into the deal with my 'new car. I too can't get over the GC/GF cars - still look better than any else to date in my opinion. Except of course those new Legacy GTs - yum!

I rocked a 99 Impreza L long before I hit the US shores. I was one of the only guys in the Pacific region to try to modify a non-turbo. I never got into the internals before I moved, but under 100km/h I could could hang in the corners with a lot of WRX's.
So you're in good company around here!

Yes I did. I took some new pics of the TCU and the connector. Hopefully we'll get this straighten out and I'll do a semi write up with your DIY for us Legacy crowd
