happy that my center muffer came in.. I get the car up on the ramps e-brake is a joke...

and I see for the end of the center a new section was wielded in :-(

in the event that I can't get the shop to cut the end off my new piece can emissions fail you on a exhaust leak?

I'm not sure how much it's going to cost... ASSuming that the shop will install the gasket and bolts after the cat..

can't be any more then $50 that I can see..
here is the pics.

woww thats so wierd mine was the same way. welded just like that...(except the underside of my car isnt that rusty) i got a cat back though so it didnt matter but thats wierd...
as for them passing you for emissions, i am not really sure. around where i am every inspection station is different. there are some that are wicked strict about everything, and some that are really lenient. the one i go to, they really dont care you basically give them the money and get a sticker

the flange there is common to rust out. so some people are lazy and just weld a pipe there.. so are you getting a new flange welded on the muffler? cause that mid pipe wont do no good with no flange on the muffler. make sure you get a subaru gasket donut cat-mid gasket. there the only ones that fit properly. either you get a gasket that doesnt fit on the pipe. or is to large for the pipe and is to thin..
cost
1hr for the mid-pipe install
$~15 for the gaskets
$10 for bolt kit
$5 for bolts
1hr if they have to weld a new flange
$~10-15 for a flange
so at the average shop @$~60
$~165

hmm that can't be from the factory right? I'm scared just to move the pipe out of the way in fear of causing a rust crack lol

I just need to pass emissions which starts by me getting a knock sensor since here CEL on = fail.

what are you talking about it's no good? the mid pipe has no flange from what I can tell that goes to the axle back it seems to be all one piece but then again I will have to recheck tonight since I had my car on ramps and I could hardly fit under the middle of the car.. ('m only 133Lb)

I was thinking maybe the shop was going to cut off the flange on the new mid pipe.. because what I saw yesterday made no since at all with no flange for the axle back

There's a flange under that shrink wrapping. I have had luck with Monroe muffler for installs. You tell a tech what you want done with it, and he'll tell you like $50 cash for the whole thing, and you are all set. You are going to need a muffler too now. Unless you wanna chop up that brand new pipe.
Too bad though, I had a brand new complete 95-99 catback setup with gaskets and muffler in my basement for months that I finally just got rid of.

Monroe muffler I take it that it's in Monroe? and yes I know it has a flange on both ends how a proper pipe should be.. and I have no extra money for a expensive ass axle back.. however I just planned on getting a muffler and just letting a shop wield in a new pipe to the muffler since I can't tell how close anything is to popping a hole.

plus I don't think CT salts as hard as MI (where this car was brought) and NYC (where I picked the car up from)

They do emissions testing too so I can knock both out at the same time

Do you have the cash to buy a SPT axle back? ($160 shipped) if you want to pay ashop to weld to the crappy stock muffler the SPT would be a better option.

I don't know much about the SPT stuff but if it's anything like the overpriced STI exhausts that are overpriced and hardly offer any sound improvements then I don't know..

What I wanted the shop to do was wield a flange on for the axle back and I would be putting on a magnaflow.

i wont know what my paycheck is until tomorrow morning.

All the sound from an SPT is top end. I have one from a wagon on my car. The tail pipe is longer, looks a little goofy but I'm not trying to impress anyone.

but the nice thing about spt is its factory and is classified as OE. but i had to go threw the hassle of proving it threw court it was OEM (not for inspection). just a stupid cop. but now my rmv record has a note that the exhaust is OEM and any ticket is null and void
i have a gt muffler just floating around. also one repaired like yours almost(custom mide pipe welded to OE axle back)

Wow so I arrived at Monroe and I said I have the part to be installed and the guy said we can't install your parts.. So he looked up all the parts I need and it came to like $600 something.. I was like WTF???? So the guy made a deal with me he will install $95 cash because he can get into trouble doing this. Man if I known this I would of rethiugt it all over.

shops hate it when people bring there own parts. 1 they cant mark it up 2 they cant warranty the product

LOL it's bosal the same company that makes SPT exhaust. But 600 LOL that's $200 more then I brought the car for.

lol just my luck I found out I have to drive some people in NYC.. GREAT what a great way to celebrate... and on a Wednesday non the less...

at least I can get to see how my MPG is going to be since right now in town it's kinda crappy.. I've had to reset the ECU a few times because switching batteries and have not been able to do 100 miles yet.
