Moonroof's not working on BD's

So im looking to buy a BD lately and so far i tested 4-6 lgts that have moonroof's that dont work, these are wagons and sedans that i have tested out. I tried searchin the fourms for the problem but couldnt find anything that fit. I found this one 99 lgt lmtd that i want to buy, and it has the same moonroof problem has anyone ran into this problem before? I

Mine works fine. Is it the switch/motor for the moonroof or is it not sliding on the tracks? From what I understand, the system is sold as a whole and requires the removal of the ceiling upholstery in order to replace. I cannot remember who had the problem, but if you search for it, there is a thread on the matter.

TheAngryPidgeon is correct. You must remove the headliner to remove the assembly. And you can not buy just the motor.. or just the glass. or just the tracks.. it is sold as one unit at an outrageous price.

If its any help I have a spare BK Wagon sunroof assembly & BD Sedan sunroof assembly. Both have working motors.. Also I have spare switches..

If you do buy one of these legacy's with a bad sunroof assembly. I would be happy to help you with spare parts at no cost but the shipping.

Thanks chuck I really appreciate that, im gong to call the guy today to ask him if it works. Hopefully it does because being a kid that grew up in the city im not that handy but if it doesn't work, ill figure out how to be lol

I'll be honest with you. Theres nothing handy involved. Simple screws to remove the plastic interior panels. Drop the headliner with help from a friend. And 6-10 bolts to unbolt the entire sunroof assembly.

If you would like pictures of the assembly I can get them for you in a day or two..

My fiend wrote of his 98 bd gt. its mine now. i'v purchased and stripped 2 bk gt's.. i have many friends with gen 2 legacy's. The 98 bd gt is sitting on blocks in my driveway. There are a few boxes of parts at my parents place, my closet is full of noltec suspension and random upgrades. At the same time my room mate is not to happy with a set of 205/55/r16's snowflakes stacked next to the fish tank.. Oh and the lets not forget about my friends and there part collections :-p

I don't see a point in making a gain off the legacy community. Craigslists/Kijiji is where I can make some money but I cant be bothered.

mines worked fine since i owned it
i was never able to tell if this was an issue but, whenever I am closing it, I push the button, and it always stops halfway, so i release it and push it again, and it closes no problem. Not sure if this is a sign of a motor failure to come or some kind of option thats supposed to happen. :?:

That's supposed to be like that. It happens on both mine and my roommate's.

The sunroof stops half way for safety reasons. Makes you look up to double check that your not going to close the panel on someone or something.

Thanks chuck for the pictures I will definitly keep it in mind as of right now I have the car, but i have more prevelent problems to wory about then the moon roof not working. haha But I its definitly on my fix list!

i know this is an old thread but.... My 98 legacy gt does the same thing, it will open but not close or tilt. Haven't had the motivation to tear it apart yet. Anyone resolve this issue without buying a new setup??

I'm on my 2nd now. Bought one off Reason a few years back. It worked for a month or so. the cable broke or the track is f'd up. I wish these were a cheaper fix. I've had no headliner for quite some time now. Moonroofs suck!

Dunno. The one in my BD has worked the whole time I've had it (since last March, eeehhhh).

If you want, I'm parting my BD out and you can buy the sunroof and go through the fun of replacing it again! :wink:

I have the same problem in my BD, from what i read i thought it was pretty common. Not the funnest fix in the world either. good luck, im ok with it not working (unless i was working on something else up there)

*update*
So with life and such I have not found time yet to document the sunroof replacement. However I have a friend with a BK GT who is also having sunroof problems, so we are going to do both replacements and document them. BD sunroof and BK sunroof. Its June and its still cold outside, so hang tight and I'll post soon enough.

there are 4 drain lines, one at each corner. Its possible that one of them have come loss.
