the pinch welds about 6 inch from the wheel well
or other places.
Front: on the inner frame support rails (dont use the last foot the rail)
rear: on the plates for the rear diff support

Owners manual shows the correct points on the sides of the car for jack points. About 5" behind the front wheel and 4" in front of the rear wheels. Look for an arrow stamped on the chassis between two notches.
Yeah, don't really like to use the pinch welds. I think that's what the owner's manual is saying to use.
I'll check out the diff support and frame rails.

On a 99 gt with the side skirting the arrow is on the skirting... doesn't seem like a safe place to jack the car up. Is there some metal directly underneath this or is the jack point further beneath the car past the skirting?

I think I supported mine on the front where the suspension arms mount. I jacked from crossmember running under the engine.. On the rear I jacked the diff, and supported where the suspension arms mount.
I've put jackstands where the pinch welds were and they bent. Those are good for the included jack that straddles the metal, but doesn't work so well for anything else.

I like to use the swaybar body mounts on my Neon, but I think I had to use the K-Member on the Outback. Haven't looked at the rear yet, but I imagine where the links link would be strong and low enough.

used factory jack points like I mentioned earlier. No problems.
I was using my jacks on the frame rails, and just inspected it closely and the jacks put dents into the frame rails. I remember I put my 96 legacy up on that without any issues before, so not sure why the new one is getting dents in it.
For some reason the under coating on the car is coming off and it totally came off down to bare metal where I had put the jackstands.
I ended up using spot right infront of the factory jack point where there are the two little bolts and a folded rag into the crevice of the jack stand (the U channel is really deep).
The back is on ramps. :smt006

That's friction for you.

The mystical being known as friction!
Yeah i'm not that surprised it came off, but I had the 96 up the same way previously and never had that issue.
Should i respray those spots with some type of undercarriage coating spray? I'm afraid it might start rusting with the metal exposed.

Some might not like this but I put jackstands on the tow hooks (and jack from them too) as well as inboard of the frame rails on that flat part aft of the control arm.

Yep, I did. Best to wirebrush off the loose undercoating and just spray liberally!

That sounds scary. I know those tow hooks should be pretty resilient, but i dont know that i would trust it there!
