ok so my headgaskets went out in my legacy gt and i was wondering how much trouble it would be to put a ej22 into there instead of the 25? i was thinking that i could get a 22 cheaper and then not worry about blowing another headgasket... so yeah thanks in advance

look for jey's thread. IIRC, he did the same thing.
No, I went the other way, 2.5L motor into a 2.2L car.
But either way mechanically it bolts right up, it's some of the sensors that are different between the two motors. Pay attention especially to the idle control system - try to match it up because that's the biggest electronics change I think between the NA motors.

Everything fit except the power steering hoses and the a/c hoses . This is with he assumption that you are using the pwer steering pump ad compressor from the 2.2.... and quick note if you get no start issues .. make sure you check the grounds first .
Hardest part of the whole swap is separating the engine from the transmission.

I'm doing the exact same thing. 2.5 to a 2.2. Just sick of that finicky 2.5 phase 1. Ill be looking for some basic 2.2 upgrades.
