First off got to lay down a few things...ej205 swap on stock 98 lgt trans 155k miles...stage 1 organic exedy, stock flywheel, and running no power steering pump at the moment due to a leaky line that ate my old pump...
I was driving to go pick up my seats about 6 hours away, got 2 hours into the trip and when I would turn left for some reason the wheel would start shaking violently. If i let off the gas it would go away, if I pushed in the clutch it would stay. I also noticed that this morning my ABS light came on and it's never been on before. When I turn full lock in a circle there is a clunk, going both ways, but only at full lock. I removed the sway bar because it was rubbing on the steering rods. I'm now thinking that a steering rod could be bent. I have a torn boot on the drivers side steering rod...so maybe I got a rock in there or something?
However I really got thinking. I'm wondering what if it is my center or front differential. the signs seem to be pointing to a drivetrain problem. The one thing that has me puzzled is that it only happens if I'm going over 60, if i stay under 50 the problem wont arise. once it does arise it happens at all speeds until I slow down, stop. Let the car run or turn it off for 2 mins, then take off again. Then it will go away and will come back 2 miles later. I'm just stumped. I can't get into the shop until Tuesday to start tearing into things and get a really good look at it on the hoist. I'm going to check both axles and most likely replace both the fronts but there is a noise coming from the left front when it spazzes out.
Also when the front wheels are in the air the trans makes a little clunk as i spin the wheels one way a little then switch to the other direction, basically why it has me thinking front diff. Any thoughts here...I'm thinking front diff or steering rack...can't really think of how the half shafts would cause this...
