hey my car is SOHC and i feel that it has low end torque and the engine seems to rev quicker, my pal has a DOHC which seems to be a lil bit lazy on the revs and even torque, but many say its good for top speed is it true??

Nope. It depends entirely on the engines, their tune and any modifications.

You can make either engine a high-rpm low tq, or low-rpm high tq. Just depends on the ingredients.

it depend talking n/a heads. you can do the same think to them. porting/polishing chamber and ports, cams, valves. to get them pretty equal, but when it comes to high rpm, DOHC is the better choose because less strain on the valvetrain, because of the no rocker design. because you can have lower lifting camlobe, and less strane on the cams

Not to mention with DOHC you can play about with the relationship between intake and exhaust timing using some adjustable gears. Will never get that freedom on a SOHC design. And on a n/a motor where every pony counts - a couple degrees advanced can make all the difference

My N/A SOHC RS revs and revbounces way faster than my DOHC turbo'ed Outback. There are notable differences in the engine builds but I've always noticed the huge difference. At redline my DOHC motor just sorta "lopes" whereas my SOHC RS will literally bounce and zing off the limiter.
No I don't ride the limiter all the time. It happens on occasion when I AutoX and RallyX.

Thanks guys yeah kinda found out that my SOHC kinda loves bouncing off the limiter.,we had a sound off with a couple of myO5 inprezas and GC8s and all the chics loved the sound of mine...maybe coz it was riding the limiter...I would never do that again,
And what's the whine you get from most SOHC legacies when accelarating? How much top end can you achieve from an N/A legacy let's say on a deristricted highway?? This is africa people don't used highways a lot.. lol
