Trying to drop my tranny today..

I loosened the 14mm bolt near the ABS sensor, but the control arm wont come down.. I tried to use a 2x4 and hammer down a bit, i got it to go down about 1/8 inch but i can't get it any further...

I even removed undid one of the bolts on the swaybar end links still no luck..

Any ideas?

uhh what?
im guessing your trying to take the axles out?
1) unbolt the axle (32mm) make sure its free form the hub, then you need to unbolt the balljoint from the arm(and tierod it makes it a little easier but dont need to) then smack the arm with a hammer right by the balljoint to break it loose. then a big bar to pull the arm down and pull the ball joint away from the arm the by turning the hub you can pull the axle out of the hub. then you need to knock out the roll pin on the inner cv then the axle will come out of the car.
2) knock out the roll pin in the inner cv, undo the ball joint and take out of the arm, rest to the side, pull the axle of the tranny, and put the axle out of the way from the tranny

Well i was following the instructions in the service manual to drop the tranny. I'm not trying to take the whole axle out, just the drive shaft side out of the transfer case. I just need to separate the hub from the control arm so I can pull it away a little bit enough to pull the axles shafts out.

It says just to get take out the bolt holding the "pinch" joint which holds the ball joint into the hub knuckle. I took that bolt out and then i'm supposed to "lower" the control arm.. but it's really stuck in there.

Will it be any easier if i take off the castle nut on the bottom of the control arm?

much easier to take the caster nut off. and separte from the arm. to pull it out the way they say you need to spread the hub a little to get the ball joint out.

yeah i'm not having any luck..

i don't have a 32mm socket either :-?

Looks like the control arms is just three bolts... can i just seperate the control arm from the car?

just take the castle nut of and seperate the ball joint from the arm leave the axle floating. you need to have a long bar to lower the arm off of the ball joint

Took the castle nut off and couldnt get the arm to come off of the ball socket either.

Took your advice and pried open the knuckle and banged the crap out of it.. finally got it out... Thanks! :smt004

Now just gotta drop the tranny..

you have to smack the arm with a hammer where the ball joint goes through to break free the balljoint. but you got it the other way
