well...we're meeting up at the state park in addison, ny and then we're going to eat...in gil's post right above me he posted a map with the address of the park on it...
the rest of us are meeting right outside williamsport on route 15 N at the hepburnville exit...
i'd say it would be easier just to meet us at the state park in addison. i think it'll be a lot of extra miles for you to drive to williamsport and then up to new york

^^good call. I expect lots of pictures, and maybe some videos :D This makes me want a midwest meet badly :D
Have fun everyone!
Oh, btw, I figured out that I've been fairly close to the Williamsport crew several times in my travels to the catskills in NY via route 80...maybe sometime :)

okay....port crew....when you turn left at the bottom of the ramp, there will be a gravel lot to your left on the other side of the underpass....i thought that it would be best to meet there instead of clogging the off ramp up...

03-11-2006, 08:40 PM
NewGenSti did not show. He was the only one I believe other than a local guy who was going to tag along.
Well, lets just say the moring started off very well. Of course until we followed MapQuest directions to leave Route 15 North to find the village of Addison then follow our way to the State Park. Jess & Spencer had the directions that took us to one HELL of a fun soft dirt/clay road! It was rally cross heaven... Then we thought we were lost so we headed back down the road to get back on North 15. Matt & myself played for a little bit on the way back down.
Finally we found our way to meet Gil & his girl at the park (the lack of signs pointing us to the park sucked). Well, ivwarrior had GPS & found us a way back to the now titled "fun road". We played hard & had fun!! I managed to hang my Legacy GT over an embankment w/ a 4'-5' drop while trying to turn around in a muddy road way (not recommended to novice drivers). Lucky for me we had enough people to push it back onto the road.
The crew then headed back into Corning to eat at Friendlys. God the waitress took forever to get stuff to us & even forgot some people's entire meal (Astin's buddy). 2 hours later we were back on the road to head home.
As we came up on the top of Steam Valley we were all passed by a ricer in a '96-'97 Honda Accord. It was on!!! I dropped the hammer & lost the crew as I bombed the switch backs of Route 15 South eating the Honda alive (reached 100+ mph at one point through the straight aways going from turn to turn).
Once we hit Trout Run, Matt wanted to take a scenic stroll on the Rose Valley hill climb road. Big mistake!!! I went down it with no problems. Matt had to avoid an on coming truck & put his Legacy into a large rock with ruined both of this WRX wheels on the right side likely bent the control arms too. He limped it home, but I don't think he'll be allowed out to play any time soon...
Pictures soon to come!!!!

It was great to meet you too Gil! I'm envious of your car's factory color if you couldn't tell. Hands down that has to be one of my favorite colors now!
As for the Outback Option, you all now know why I got nicknamed "Magellan" for using MapQuest directions... You really never know if they are going to get you to where you want to go.
belladonna
03-11-2006, 08:46 PM
Jason... the "subaru/outback button" on mapquest really deserves the credit for the "fun road" a good time was had by all (except for when you decided to take a detour into a local field)... luckily we got you out before the locals showed up in pickup trucks with rifles and pitchforks. (nothing like braking for chickens to make you truly realize how far out in BFE you really are) who knew NY's idea of a state park is a golf course... i guess that's saying something.
glad to hear that you and matt made it home ok... we actually came up over the hill climb on the way back to my house to make sure you guys weren't broken down somewhere along the way.
it was great meeting the non-port crew

they would have worked if mapquest would have listed one small stretch of road that connected everything.

The worst part is, when on the "fun road" when we thought we were lost and turned around (I had the computer firing up to see where we were, but they weren't patient enough to wait for the GPS to lock on) we were only about a mile away from the park, and the roads would have gotten us there. We ended up doing probably 20 miles turning around and getting to the park.
I had a great time, it was nice meeting everyone. You'll all have to make sure you make it down to Beaver Springs, we'll have to meet somewhere.
I left my card reader at home, I'll check what pictures I have and get some up tomorrow. My wife and I are gonna spend the night here at her parent's house and drive home tomorrow morning.

I've got pictures of each car/driver together on my camera. Gotta get home tomorrow to get the pics onto my computer to resize and post. We could easily do a weekend event, camping in a PA State Park. I even know some more typically muddy roads near 2 state parks. And they're out in the middle of nowhere, typically empty roads.

Spencer was "love wrestling" with her, so we all wanted to get it on camera in case it went to court.
As for Matt, it was a good down hill drift run until he met up with the other vehicle & then the abusive rock. :(

I'm surprised he made it home 10 or so miles home w/o the tire blowing out from it being turned outward. He said if he let the steering wheel go, it would pull straight to the right & off the road it's that bad. We drove no faster than 45 mph on the way home. He thinks he can get replacement parts from a local Subaru Used Car dealer here locally. We'll find out Monday. I already informed him to drag it down the street to my garage & we'll tear it down with air tools in no time.

Jason... if he needs anything, i think i'm gonna try to hit harry's U-pull-it on tuesday... and now a moment of silence for matt's turbo leg... :(

i have to say i had a TON of fun today. one of the coolest car meets i've been to and definetely a unique one. who knew that mapquest catered to subaru owners and their "dirt road tendencies" you guys were a blast to hang out with and i look forward to having another meet soon!

yeah, no everyone was fine but it was pretty weird. there was too many people on the elevator and I guess the counter weight couldnt stop the thing so it went all the way to the floor. and then because it went past the last door we couldnt get the doors open. I tried taking the thing apart from the inside. lol it felt like it was like 100 degrees inside the thing and it was like really hard to breath. The most anyone got was just a little scare I guess.. but it was weird we sat there ringing the alarm for like 20 min and noone answered us or anything like no one knew. so someone called 911 and the fire company came to get us

That would be a big negative... Every place there was a good rally drift corner, a house w/ people home was very near by. After I managed to hang up the GT on the bank, we all high tailed it out of there just in case they called the cops. Of course as we headed up towards Corning to eat, the NY State Police were sitting there in between the lanes of highway. We thought they were waiting for us but they weren't. *whew!*

They always do.
One time, I passed on the right (it was only 1 lane  ) and as I pulled in, I spotted a cop about a 1/4 mile down...he gave me an angry stare as I went by, and I found a side road ASAP. Don't think he saw me do what I did though :D

And not just one State Police vehicle. There were 2 or three State Police cars and a Sheriff or two in SUVs.
I'm home now, give me a little bit to pull the pics off the card and format and I'll get some stuff online. Now, if I just knew how to morf a couple into an animated .gif..........

Yeah the people living on those back roads got a great wake up call with all those subaru's slining mud and dirt all over!.
I would just like to say that it was one of the best car events i've every been in. It was totally awesome meeting everyone its no wonder that SLI is as great as it is with all the nice people. There were so many highlights throughout the day that i could prob. type up a novel, but mostly everyone mentioned them. But once again, thanks to everyone for making it an awesome day, and a another event must be in the works immediatly :-D

We did get lucky with the weather. I stayed at my inlaws last night and it was raining for the entire drive home today. Yesterday was absolutely beautiful.
We don't need to wait for fall for another meet. :) At the very least, we should make sure we have a "meet up point" for the event at Beaver Springs dragway and go in together. And/or the Wellsboro event. THEN have something like yesterday again in the fall.

We also proved that a cute red head doesn't always provide the proper weight sitting in the trunk to of offset a perfectly balanced GT sedan with only 2 wheels touching the ground! But I'm sure she did manage to distract the locals who were staring just down the road from us. 8)

Yeah, this meet was a lot of fun.....up until the point where I almost died. I seriously came very close to becoming a little cross on the side of the road. That truck came out of nowhere and if it weren't for my considerable driving skillz, I'd be toast. I'm lucky I got away with as little damage as I did but Subarina is pretty messed up.
This is why we don't drive with completely bald front tires boys and girls. These cars understeer enough as it is and don't need any more help.
Both of my passneger side rims are toast, well, ones toast and one is bent and rashed severely. My control arm is tweaked SEVERELY and both control arm bushings ruptured. Hopefully the sway bar and tie-rod are ok. My fender (which I replaced only 6 months ago  ) is bent, corner light is broke and I lost my inner fender liner. The front wheel got pushed so far back that it's touching the back part of the fender well.
Still though, I'm really lucky. The spot where this happened is extremely hairy, wooded cliff drop off on one side and nasty rock bank on the other. I chose the rocks and caught a really nasty one.
I'm ok though and Subarina should be ok soon. I'm forced to keep driving her in this condition though (no other car to use to get the kids to school and to work) but it's not an easy task. I have to counter steer 90 degrees to the left just to keep it going straight. *sigh*
It's funny though. Just after I talked to Jason about coming down and he turned around to go down first so he could video me, I thought about how tired I was and actually had a premanition (sp?) that I was going to crash from avoiding another oncoming vehicle. Then I thought I was being silly and went ahead and went. Guess I should have listened to myself.
Anyways, it really was a fun meet and it was great to meet those of you that I hadn't already met. We'll have to do it again soon (hopefully the wife will let me out to play, I'm currently grounded).
I'll try and get my pics and video up soon.
P.S. Jason did video the incident but turned the camera off just before impact, so you can't hear it. You do see the truck, me then hitting my brakes, tires sqeeling and then I clear the truck and dissapear over the hill. It's creepy for me to watch.
I'm glad you're ok Matt. The hill climb can be dangerous. My bro ate those same rocks years ago.

I told Kate all about it (ok, so I left out the part that I drove it prior to you going down) & figured it would be a good while before you were allowed to come out & play down at my house. Jess & Spencer have your inner fender well. They picked it up & followed us back the road to make sure no one broke down ("Casper the Evil GT" was running a bit warm after the hill climb & bomb session).
We are all very glad you made it out alive Matt!!! So if there's a next time you get a "feeling" like that, LISTENT TO IT DUMB ASS!!!!  Ron made the point afterwards we should have had people at top & bottom with 2way radios to cover the possibility of traffic coming. You live, you learn right?
If you manage to pick up the parts any time soon, you know how to find me to fix her back up. As for the wife, there's nothing I can do for ya there bro... That's way outta my field of expertise.

if he needs anything, i think i'm gonna try to hit harry's U-pull-it on tuesday... and now a moment of silence for matt's turbo leg... :(
I need a passenger side control arm with both bushings and the ball joint! I need to get my car at least somewhat fixed (drive in a straight line) ASAP! If you see one there Spencer, snatch it for me as long as it's cheap. Use your best judgement on that. THANKS! :-D

03-13-2006, 09:39 AM
OK, I just got off the phone with Linda and she wants $65 for the control arm, both bushings and the ball joint. A little more then I wanted to spend but not too bad.
Spencer/Jess- Do you think it would be less then that at Harry's? When will you guys get back tomorrow? Tomorrow is my day off, so if I could do it tomorrow at some point, it would be great. :-D
If you guys aren't going to be back until late or if you think it might cost more at Harry's then I'll probably go ahead and just get it from Linda. LMK!
Thanks. :)

i'll have to check the price list but i'm guessing probably under 30 for the control arm... i'd be going in the morning and probably be back 4-5ish
will any bc work?
i'll drop off the fenderwell liner today after work...
legacy92ej22t
03-13-2006, 10:42 AM
Any BC/BF/BJ should work. I need the whole assembly though, a-arm, bushings and ball joint. You still think it will be under $30?
I'll be at work today but you can just throw it in my carport.
Keep the incident on the down low if you see any of my family members please. ;)

liner is on the car port next to the tranny...
if i'm reading this price list correctly, i'm looking at under 20 for everything... harry's is pretty cheap.
do you think you bent the strut too?
legacy92ej22t
03-13-2006, 03:50 PM
I'm not sure on the strut but I have a new suspension (struts and springs) sitting in my basement, so I'll be ok there. It's more the tie-rod, sway bar and axle that I'm worried about.
Thanks for dropping that off. :)

Wow I am so upset that I missed this, looks like you guys had an amazing time...unfortunately last friday I found out I had a severe oil leak when I was about 45 minutes from my school, needless to say it took me 8 quarts of oil to get back, and I spent that whole friday scamming my friends AAA to get it towed back to my house for free. I won't be able to fix it until this coming weekend during my spring break. I'm real bummed! It'll definatly be all set for the next one though! Awesome pictures!
