looking for some new foglights...any recommendations??

So i cracked my hella 500s(not really bad and doesnt really affect the lighting but is an excuse lol) and im looking to replace them. They were good fogs but my problem was that since they are mounted upside down(welded to the stock fog mounts) they always shot the light up and thats not really helpful. These are the older style yellow lens ones, and id like to stay with yellow if possible. Any suggestions? Just to reiterate, they must "fit" in the stock locations, and be able to be hung upside down without shooting most of the light up and into the sky. Yellow would be nice but there are bulbs for that

piaa makes a light that is the exact size as stock, you can get them in yellow, but they are expnsive.

If you want, I could take your cracked 500's off your hands. I have the 500 driving lights currently and I realize I need a fog light more than a driving light.

these are the best fog projectors believe it or not, better than lexus es300 fogs or even the bosch ones. here is the output of 1 10ft from a garage door. with a HID bulb.

+1 for those projector fogs. I have a pair installed in the front bumper buy the license plate, and they are very nice, except my low beam HID projectors overpower them quite a lot, something that will be remedied by HID's.

hmmm...from what i understand HIDs are horrible for fog(fog up here is like thick enough to cut...here have been times i couldnt see 2 feet infront of my car), and nord, when i get my next set ill let you know

HIDs arent bad for the fog at all... the whiter the light the worse it is, using a 3000k or a 4300k bulb is best. the more yellow the better. it will increase depth perception, when the whiter light reflects causing glare.

Hey B, is there any way to coat the blazer lenses to make them yellow, rather than getting 3000k bulbs? They are harder to come by in 880 form.

you can actually do what i did with mine... i converted them to d2s bulbs, they are brighters + more reliable! u have to shave off about 1/4 of an inch then u create a type of bulb holder and line the bulb to be centered!

Ahh, very nice. I didn't think if that. Now I just need a pair of d2s...

Edit: oh yeah, did you use aftermarket bulbs or oem? I can't find any oem 3000k bulbs that aren't really expensive.

you wont find em cheap. you can either use 85122+ bulbs and just go with the 4300k. (not 4900k even though they are marked that). or you can buy phillips 85122YX bulbs which are the best of the best but very expensive. i bought a pair new at 125 each bulb. andycivic may have a pair for around 125 used.

Yeah, the 4300k will probably end up being what I get. The little halogen bulbs don't put out any light.

I just picked up a set of Hella 1000FF and they are more than enough for what i want to do and have no problems at all in the fog i even ran them in the datime when it was overcast through the mountains and it cut the fog in the day time. At 100 for a set there cheap too compared and you can always convert them to HID if needed but honestly my lights are a bit brighter than my gfs parents Nissan Murrano and its got nice HID lights.

have to remember the Nissan HIDs may not have as bright of a hot spot. but they are definitely wider and evenly distributed. they probably have bad bulbs too because they SHOULD be brighter. ><. the reason why rally car's today have so many lights on them is

NOT for brightness.

They can get the same brightness from 1-2 good HID lights. But if those 2 lights get covered in mud... then they are SOL. hence why they have so many!
