I have a 95 Legacy with the AT in it, and this is the first AT I have owned since I have started driving
Eagle Talon 5spd
Isuzu Amigo 5spd
Saturn SL1 5spd
Subaru WRX STi 6spd
Dodge Ram Diesel 5spd
and now this legacy AT(BLAAHHH)

Anyways I have aquired through a friend a 5mt from a 92 legacy, and I was wondering if I can swap it into my car. I really need to get rid of this Auto crap I cant stand it. I have a turbo/intercooler setup I am in the process of installing, but I would really like to get a 5spd in the car also.

If anyone knows if the older 5spd will fit please let me know Thanks

What is the specific model and options on your car?

Does it have ABS?

Does it have TCS? (Traction Control System) (you'd be 2WD w/ ABS if you did)

you'll need, without a doubt:
pedal box from an MT car
transmission crossmember
transmission mount
depending on the tranny type (from a Legacy Turbo??), you may need hydraulic setup: master, slave, pipe, hose - or - you may need the cable setup if a non-turbo.
clutch kit (again, will depend if turbo or not)
flywheel
shifter assembly
appropriate interior center console trim for shifter

You may need to get another ABS control module to keep your ABS running. Also, you will need to do a little bit of splicing to trick some of the stock wiring allowing you to release the key from the ignition.

But more of this after some details are disclosed.

OH and one other thing: a matching ratio rear diff w/ possible matching axles and longer driveshaft (4EAT is shorter than the 5MT)

well, since he didn't answer, i can piggyback this thread since i am in a very similar situation.

'95 Legacy L Sedan
AWD
ABS
no TCS

Since I don't yet even have the transmission, what would be a good suggestion. While I realize there are several things i'd have to replace if i chose to get a turbocharged engine later, let's assume that i'll be staying with the ej22 right now. What transmissions will fit in this? Does it have to be a legacy transmission or would one from an impreza work?

I would say the best bet for everything fitting, and getting everything from GGTs list, is find a 5speed 95 legacy L in a junkyard and pull it all out ;) . If you are going to do a turbo engine swap eventually however, don't even bother switching it from AT to MT now. Do it all at the same time and swap in a trans designed for a turbo subaru motor (even though that doesnt say much except fo the STi)

yes, and impreza would work, any subaru with an EJ engine will have an EJ transmission. so even an STi 6 speed would work (although, they're expensive).

so, which would be better to go with - the ej20 or the ej22t? Or would it be better sticking with the NA motor? Not that I plan to act on this sort of thing any time soon, just wanted to know your guys' opinion.

General Rule of thumb:
EJ22t for a serious (and rich) motor builder, EJ20t for cheap(ish) and easy power....both are wiring nightmares though...

stay N/A for right now though, until you do your research ;)

You dont have to be rich to do an EJ22 buildup, you have to be lucky ;). Both are just as difficult to install, so in that sense it doesn't matter which one you pick. A USDM EJ20 is nice because of the wealth of aftermarket parts for the engine. The EJ22 is nice because it is bulletproof.

well, yeah, I meant its going to be a lot harder (and possibly cost a lot more) to build up an EJ22t...but the parts are there...

Sorry I didnt reply back in such a long time. My car is a 1995 SL AWD with abs. But anyways I managed to get a 1995 5spd awd legacy parts car for $350 over the christmas holiday so I have everythign I need now. I am just waiting untill I get the money for a better clutch.
And as far as the N/A vs Turbo thing goes I have some pictures attached showing my opinion towards that :lol:

Its actually a Garrett T-25g off of a JDM Nissan Sylvia
I rebuilt the turbo and powdercoated it red wrinkle while it was apart. :lol:
