i just stumbled upon a killer deal on a 2.2T out of a legacy 94. i was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on me doing a swap in to my 01 legacy? would it be a lot of work / will it work? is it worth it? just some pros and cons if you could. i just want to know how difficult it would be to do this.

you should search before you ask.
any ej-series motor will bolt in with no worries. You will need the following:
1) ej22t engine
2) ej22t ecu
3) ej22t ecu wiring harness
4) turbo cross member (x-member) (front subframe)
5) 48+ hours to merge the engine harness to the your 01 wagon body harness (or $500-700 for a pre-made one from ECS)
you can bolt any EJ motor to any 5MT but N/A 5MT don't last under boost.

etc..
Wagon/Sedan/BD/BK/BE/BH it doesn't matter its a subaru and they all share the same parts more or less.

You will be going back to an OBD1 system. Assuming you are ok with that then yes, it can be done with a little bit of mechanical knowledge, some wiring prowess and lots of time.

thanks for you input. i think im going to try and put it in my buddy's 92 and just save up for the b4 2.0tt for mine.
Yeah and it may not even be worth it - you're talking about an old motor that made 160 hp when new - may not be any better than your 165 in your 2001 Legacy.

Twin Turbo? Even worse. Do some searching - you will have to work around the fact that the twin turbo setup does not transfer well into a LHD car. And you STILL have to worry about how to merge the wiring, and now you're also dealing with a JDM ECU.

i found a whole front clip from japan motor, trany, ecu, ect. so the conversion would be swapping all the parts over. cut the firewall out and replace w/ the jdm one. its a lot of work but im sure it can be done.
here is the Ebay seller that has it.

 Cutting and replacing a firewall is almost unheard of with engine swaps. Theres no reason you would do this. not even when converting to RHD. Firewall is structure don't mess around.
IIRC the Twin turbo motors from Japan will not work with your USDM left hand drive setup. The turbo manifold interferes with the steering column. Many Twin turbo owners have to convert to single turbo setups.
With a front clip you basically replace everything from the front clip to your wagon. Engine/Subframe/wiring/all engine accessories. If you choose to swap the transmission you will have to match the rear differentials final drive.
Example.. 5MT 4.44 tranny w/ 4.44 r160 rear diff. or 5MT 4.11 tranny w/ 4.11 r160 rear diff. Etc. you have to match the ratio!!
Like I said before any EJ-series can be swapped in with simple re-and-re its just the wiring that is the difficult part. You do not have to be specific to chassis type. No guarantees that a JDM BE ecu will work with your USDM BE body harness.
There are many threads that discuses swapping turbo motors and 5MT tranny's.
