As the title says, I am starting to gather info on a possible EJ22t swap into my '99 BK. I can get my hands on a lightly used '93 Legacy SS. The body is shot and then some, but the internals have 100k of light duty. I have looked over the swap pre-read info, and still have a few outstanding questions. So here is the starter list......
What would be the best way to mesh the OBD1 EJ22t to the OBD2 BK system? I think stand alone would be the easiest, or atleast the most straight forward. Would it be possible to use the OBD2 sensors, and intake from the EJ22 (gen. 2) on the 22t to help combat the OBD issues? Would it be possible to run just the engine management portion of the 22t's ecu and all other vehical systems off the BK's ecu? So a pseudo "dual" ecu? If a stand alone is the best, or enen second best idea, any names to look at?
Ok, moving along, I would like to, at some point down the road dobthe EJ22t/EJ25 hybrid. That would dictate a stand alone for sure. I would just, if nothing else like to do something different than a straight EJ20 swap.
So...... Am I wasting time on a $1700 SS, and this crazy idea, or do I have a screw loose and should stop thinking so much and just swap in a EJ20..... Thanks for the help.

Sorry to make this two posts, but it a PITA to edit with the iPod touch...... Is there a way, if I went with the stand alone ecu to send the manufacture the EJ22t ecu and have them load the factor maps before tuning, so I can get the car to a tuner that can do the job 100%? Thanks again in advance. And any information from the gentalmen in Duluth with the hybrid 22t would be great. LOL

I run a Link Plus G2 and the provided base maps were plenty adequate to start the car. Granted that was with 650cc injectors, and it started and ran at 9.5:1 off the bat. That was quickly rectified.
If can spring for it, a standalone is the better option because you can accommodate any mod you do, given that you can learn to tune. Spending $150 an hour for tuning adds up in a damn hurry.

tuning the OBDI system sucks. It's either use a standalone or the hard way - converting to an OBDII turbo ecu which entails pretty much everything else but the block, exhaust components and turbo.

You will find yourself in the same situation as me and have to run the OBD1 system. My '97 Outback runs off of a Legacy Turbo ECU. Standalone is the best way to go. I will be megasquirting the car eventually or just pulling the trigger on a nice eManage Ultimate.

You may be surprised. I ran an EJ257/EJ25 hybrid on the STOCK EJ22 ECU of my 98 Legacy L. Started and ran every time. I was only running wastegate pressure and I'd think you're hit the limit of the ECU pretty quickly past that though. As long as you use the heads from a SOHC EJ25 the sensors/logic are close enough to your SOHC EJ22 that it does work.

Well that all sounds great guys. I think if I was going to pull the trigger on this, I would do a stand alone. I would also just go straight to the end game too. Use the EJ25 head. The DOHC ones. Actually, I never asked..... SOHC or DOHC EJ25 heads?.... I guess I figured DOHC. I know it is a compression ratio thing. What is the planned comp. ratio on the 22t block, and 25 DOHC heads? I think it was 8:1, or a little less..... Thanks for the help. If I do this, plan on seeing a lot of '93 Legact SS parts on the For Sale thread..... Gotta pay for that transmission and Engine Management somehow. lol
Oh and I ment to ask too, if I was to use a stand alone, that would just run the engine functions, right?.... I know that sounds a little stipid, but I have never done a stand alone before. I would be doing it at the Traverse City shop. So.... EJ22t/EJ25 hybrid motor, and related CEL ==> Stand Alone All other functions(Airbags, etc) ==> Factory ECU

The goal is going to be somewhere around 270-300 hp. I am mainly looking for a power to weight ratio of around .9hp/Lbs. That is in the same order of my buddies '89 Superchaged MR2, and more important my ex's '83.5 Corvette. LOL I know not the best reasons for doing the swap, but we all have our reasons. That is also pretty close to the new STi's ratio. Haha Tranny wise I am not totally sure. PPG would be nice..... Just kinda pricy.
