whats the differences in the engines on the 08 legacy GT and just the regular 08 legacy
For starters, the GT has a turbo whereas the 2.5i (non GT) does not.

ok i have a non gt so i could just put a turbo on it and itd pretty much be the same thing?

You'd be better off selling your 2.5i and buying a GT if that's what you're planning on doing.
The n/a (naturally aspirated) engines are not meant to take more than 5-6psi of boost on the stock internals and at that point it's not even worth it. The GT engines are completely different and are built to be boosted from the factory.
The GT also has quite a lot of other differences including brakes, transmission, hood, etc. etc.

In order to make the 2.5i perform the same as the 2.5GT, you'll need to lower the compression ratio, since the 2.5i runs 10:1 and the GT runs much lower, either 8.5:1 or 8.2:1 or somewhere around there. Next, you'll need to swap the front crossmember. Then, you'll need to swap the entire exhaust. Next, the heads; The GT's right head has an oil line tapped into it for the turbo. You'll need to swap radiators, and get a waterbox. You'll need either an oil pan from a GT, or to have your stock oil pan drilled for an oil return line. The list goes on, brakes, suspension, etc.
It's actually pretty crazy how much difference there is between the turbo Subies and the NA Subies. It takes around 15-30 minutes for me to remove an exhaust manifold from a NA Subaru (providing nothing is broken or rusted in place) with it in my carport; Lift it and pull 3 nuts off the left side of the manifold, 3 bolts off the right side of the manifold, and 2 bolts/nuts holding the manifold to the cat pipe.
My turbo Impreza takes like 3 hours to take the manifold and up pipe off with the damn car on lift; You gotta pull the down pipe, which includes at least 3 heat shields (2 on the DP, 1 on the turbo itself), then you have to pull a few heat shields off the manifold itself, pull the front right tire, remove the plastic cover in the wheel well to get access to the O2 sensor, pull the O2 sensor, remove 2 more heat shields from the manifold, unbolt the manifold from the up pipe, then unbolt the manifold from the block. Now if you're lucky, the manifold will drop away. Then, you have to pull the bolts holding the up pipe onto the turbo, and pull it out. If you want to pull the up pipe out through the engine bay, remember to remove the oil feed line going into the turbo, or you will break it like my classmates did. >_< That cost me $270 to get replaced at a dealership (I saved about 1.5 hours of diagnostics by pointing the tech there right at the leak).

I'm being a dork and dropping my spare turbo Legacy engine into my Impreza. By FAR that's the easiest way to go crazy and add 70hp.
Adding a turbo to a specifically non-turbo engine is costly and risky. You're better off either swapping the whole car, or swapping the motor + wiring. You'll need exhaust as well of course; and a new bonnet (for the scoop).
Only do it if you are REALLY keen on your car, eh. :-?
