Rear rotor install on 97 Legacy.....am I missing something ?

I have done quite a few brake/rotor changes on my cars in the past but for some reason I can't figure out how to get my rear calipers off to change the pads and rotors on my 97 Legacy. I only see one caliper bolt? Does anyone have a step by step, pictures ect. I feel stupid asking but hell where else better to get a Subaru answer :)

You are seeing corectly, there is only one bolt on the caliper. loosen it and pull it out as far as it will go(it willl hit somethig, I forget what) and with a screwdriver, pry it so it piviots on the shaft where you think the other bolt should be. when its up away from the rotor, you can either change the pads or slide it back and take it off to get the caliper out of the way to remove the rotor.

Mine only had 1 bolt also. Follow the above post and you'll be OK.

BTW....

No shoes??? Not a big thing, but some people change their E-Brake shoes as well. They're on the inside, after removing the rotor/drum combo.


Again, not a big thing (unless yours are worn) but to be aware of.

Ebrake shoes on the drivers side correct? What size is the caliper bolts, standard or metric?

The caliper bolt is 12 MM the caliper bracket bolts are 14 MM (2 of these, you will need to take them off to take off the rotors. There are E brake shoes on drivers side and passenger side. If the rotors are tight, there are two 8-mm bolt holes thrugh the rotors that you can put bolts into to push the rotors off

Excellent...I think my ebrake is hanging up a bit on the drivers side...causing an annoying squeeking sound as the tires rotate.

was great to know a bolt can be used to remove the rotors!!!
