I've had some problems with dimming lights and flickering/low luminosity lighting and have opted to check battery and alternator before resorting to grounding kits or relay harnesses.

I got my hands on an STi alternator which from my research is rated at 90+ amps compared to the stock MY97 GT alternator which I read is rated at 75. Even if my numbers aren't correct, my alternator currently is way old and on its way out.

The STi piece is still new basically.

I was in the middle of my swap when I realized the connectors are different.

BD uses a 2 prong twin D style connector while the STi has 3 prongs. I don't know the exact style names for these but was wondering if anyone has had experience with this type of adaptation cus it is driving me insane.

edit - due to not knowing the exact style names, and after hours lookin it up and not being able to pinpoint it, i haven't been able to search for the correct adapter harness, if that'll even work.

See if you can find wiring diagrams for both vehicles. It may just be that the connectors are different, and all you need to do is find a newer Subaru with the same alt and get the connector from it.

oooo old post.

I forgot all the details but I still have my STi alternator and adapter plug, but I never got to wire in. I got the appropriate wiring diagram though so it is actually pretty straight forward.

Though to my understanding, the one in my BD, and then the one in the STi are rated at like 80ish amps then 95 amps, respectively.

An upgrade would be a Tribeca alternator. They're rated at 120 amps.
