oem maby after market 17" rims. price weight?

I want some new rims and tires. I wana use my stock snowflakes for winter and get some 17x7.5 or 17x8's for summer. id like to save money and not look to ricerish and get some from another subaru but I would also like them to be lighter if possible.

I was wondering how much do the stock snowflakes weigh? and are they 16x6? or what?

id like to get some lighter ones like the 04 STi BBS's 17x7.5's

but I also like the 05 LGT's 17x7's but how much do these weigh? and do they have a usable offset?

WRX wheels are the same as ours right 16x whatever?

I also like the jdm B4 wheels but all I know about these is there 17's


does anyone know a good site to rim shop? Most I look at don't list the offset or the weight or only list one and not the other.

You'd need coilovers and at least a 9" rim.

And wrx rims are around the same weight as snowflakes IIRC.

I think you're getting way ahead of yourself here. What are you going to be using this car for?

A 245 should be possible with the right offset and a lot of fender rolling. I wouldn't say coilovers are necessary, though they tend to come with stiff springs that will limit suspension travel and rubbing. For anything wider you will need to cut out the fenders and add some custom flares like this:

You should also know that to really take advantage of a 265 on a 3000lb car, you'll need 400whp or more. Around a track, a car of this weight with less power will be faster on a narrower tire.

I'm currently on a 225-50/16, and will eventually go to a 235/40-17 on a 17x8. A 245 would also work on that wheel but I don't think it would be worth the hassle of trying to cram it in the fenders.

well I'm defenantly going to auto-x it this summer, past that I'm not sure.

I was looking into H&R's and ION springs with Blisten HD's, Tien, or KYB shocks but I would hate to buy them and find out you can't get the right camber settings and stuff to run anything over 235's.

I'm also looking at getting some new rims I was guna run 225's but thats only 20mm more if im guna spend the money on rims id like the performance and looks of like 245's or something the stock tires are just tiny.

I'm going to fix my rust spots then roll my fenders and get the car repainted all together instead of trying to touch up the rust

I guess I'm wondering if I would want to run over 225's what is the max you can go without major custom modifications, new hubs and axles or something wouldn't be to bad but I dont wana try to remold my fender or pay to get a custom body kit or something...idk how it would look if the tires stuck out past the fenders.

I would not be worried about fitting a 235/40-17 on a 17x8 with a +48 or +45 offset as long as you roll the fenders.

Planning to auto-x and racing a high horsepower car are different things. The STi in that picture (http://www.harmanmotive.com/racing) is about 550whp and runs 285 toyo R888s. A 225 or 235 will be more than enough tire for you. Worry about spending the money on a quality tire and not so much about the size.

Truth. Anything more than 235's is honestly overkill. A 225 or 235 is the sweet spot for these cars.

You can run a 17x8 with a 235/40/17 with coilovers, a roll and pull in the rear, and a moderate drop. I never had to modify my front fenders until I went to 18's. No crazy camber, no fitment games. I have no idea how well it would work with springs, so don't ask, I've never run anything non-adjustable, and honestly wouldn't try to run an aggressively sized wheel and tire without being able to adjust height and damping.

If you need more meat than that, you're doing it wrong. Like others said, too much tire is a hindrance.

Hell, I only run a 245 on my ~400hp STi. I might toy with a 255 or 265 at some point, but I'm in no rush on that car, as it's fun as-is.

Then you also should check the AutoX rules to see if your pursuit of wide rubber is going to ruin your car classification. For Solo2 STS maximum tire width is 225 anyway.

Back to some original questions, yes, Subaru 17" wheels will be the correct offset and provide pretty good value as you can get takeoffs for pretty cheap.

Tirerack.com lists weights on all their wheels - good place to start with aftermarket wheel research.

yea I know about the 225's for STS sorta forgot about that. Thats y I was looking at 04 sti bbs rims in the first place to run 225's, I think thats what im guna do.

the BBS's are lighter than the stock GT wheels correct? even though there bigger and wider

what are u running for tires and coilovers on that?^^^^^ I can tell the tires look wider and more agressive and I like how low it is.
and you said roll and pull in the back. what do u mean by pull? pull the fenders out a little? and I have a sedan so I should have a little more room back there, less weight on the springs at least.

whats a good tire to run 225 is the best fit on a 7.5" rim right? so should I just stick with potenzas. iv never had performance summer tires on this car so I probably wont want something that has no warning and brakes loose right away

I've documented wheels, tires and suspension time and time again on my car, so I won't redo it here. ;)

As stated above, those pics are 17x8 with a 235/40/17 all-season with coilovers, a roll and pull in the rear, and a moderate drop.
Coils are Tein Flexes. Pulling is rolling the fender, then continuing to pull it out. In terms of tires, your end use is what's important. It's going to be tough to find a set of BBS's with stock tires with any usable tread, and new 070's are expensive. Identify a budget and use scenarios, then you can start talking about tires.

Only the 04 sti bbs will fit. The ST(x) tire classes are 225 max width, a 7.5-8" wheel on this would be optimal, you can make do with a 7".

My advice would be to just run whatever you have right now, there are several stock-tire classes in autox, and during you first few events the limiting factor to your times will be YOU, and not anything on the car. Plenty of autox guys will tell you to start off with some crappy tires first so you can learn and get used to driving at the tire's limit, rather than jump right into R comps that have a higher limit but more dramatic/sudden slip when you break them loose.

Kumho MXs work well. A few years ago some people even ran them in street-tire classes in Solo2 nationals, and since the design is a little older now they are almost dirt cheap.
