Hey all,

My wife's 2000 Outback is a little sick.

Seems that it's developed a slight leak - just enough to cook on the exhaust. Last time we tuned up I think they might have sealed something but I'm not sure.

I guess the better question to ask is: what should I start looking for with transmission leaks, and is it too early for me to get it checked out? Any recommendations on places to go in Eastern PA (Montgomery County) for repairs (e.g. Aamco)?

Thanks...

If you have a leak, check around the bottom of the tranny and the area where the tranny meets the engine block. If you're smelling it cooking on the exhaust then it could be seeping from the top vent hole. Check your fluid levels.

Bit of cardboard under the car when you're parked will show where the drips are.

Sound like it may be the separator plate between the engine and tranny. My GT had the same thing - leaked oil onto the y-pipe.

Are you sure its transmission fluid? Guess it should be easy to tell from the color.

Oil separator and RH camshaft support O-ring (at least on the EJ22) like to leak onto exhauast...

Check the rear seal where the shift assembly goes in. Thats where mine has a small leak.
