Still running options on what to do with this car I don't even have yet....

'98 Legacy L with a 2.2 and AT that lost a timing belt and may have bad heads/valves.

Got a 2.5 SOHC out of a '01 Forester with a bad rod bearing but good heads (and fresh head gaskets! :smt011 ) I can get cheap.

What kind of compression ratio would I be running on that setup?

Would it be better to just swap my 2.5GT's drivetrain into it??

The EJ22/EJ25 SOHC would be more reliable, but would it make as much power as the stock Phase I EJ25?

Looking to the SLi gods for answers.....

the problem is by trying to swap those heads over, you get all the headaches of doing a 2.5 swap with none of the results.......

Not really. With this scenario I would get the car running and then sell it whole. Maybe.

The 2.5 swap option would be motor/trans/everything and the wagon would become my DD. 2.5GT would get parted out, along with what was left from the swap.

all push type trannys are the same strength (except the 21 spline shafts on 1.8's). just different gear ratios.
im not sure if the 2.5 SOHC heads will boost of lower compression. but i think if would be around the same. just the heads will flow better with a more aggresive cam. you might have to swap over the 2.2 left intake cam gear and cam sensor. i forget if the 2.5 SOHC has the same 7 count gear as the 1.8, 2.2, 2.5 dohc gears

Found out they won't let me "have" the heads off the 2.5 anyways. Got the 2.2 running and something IS wrong. Going to check it out, maybe fix it, maybe swap it.
