The other day I opened my sunroof and it would not close again. So I had to pull it shut and now only one side goes up on tilt and will not go back at all. I live in Vancouver, WA anyone know where I should start to fix this... Let me know.

My daughters 97 GT had what sounds like your problem. I commented on another post with the following.

What has probably happened is that the end has come off the cable on the side that is not moving. From what I have read, Subaru does not sell just the cables so if you want to do it cheap its off to the junkyard for you. Once you have a replacment cable its really not that hard to fix, but it is time consuming. You will have to remove the headliner and take the sunroof assambly out of the car to work on it. I fixed mine and talked my friend into doing his himself. We both were sucessful.

If yours is opening and not closing, the end of the cable has broken and is only pushing, the cable must be fastened to the assembly in order to push and pull. You must take the headliner down and take the unit out of the car to fix it. Its a little hard, but not imposible

Yes, they are in the frame of the sunroof. There are 2, one for each side. The diagram does not show them, but their in there

This is the sunroof diagram. To get the cables out you must have the motor off

and remove the stops at the ends of the frame(both sides)

You should be able to see the cables through the holes in the frame here(they kind of look like pipecleaners)

and as I said ,I don't think you can buy just the cables from Subaru, so this is a Junkyard item(thats where I got mine). I hope this helps.Where are you located?

Oh, I live in portland, OR. That means I have to go find the cable unless someone has one sitting around? Let me know

im having the same problem with mine. i took it appart and the passengerside tilt meckanism has came loose from the cable. only way to fix it is to buy the track assembly. subaru sells the track and motor as one. if anyone finds a track in a junkyard let me know.

Ha, I consider both places my home. I mostly do everything in portland. So, that is why I have written both vancouver/portland in some of my post. Anyways, I need the cable if anyone has a broken sunroof and wants to part it out let me know.
