Cold air will keep the air entering into the engine at near-outside temperature, and some of them do a pretty good job of also helping to maintain torque. The Cobb CAI was well proven and probably the best example of a CAI, though it was quite expensive (and no longer in production).

A short ram intake is simpler and might help a bit more at the higher revs, but will take some of the low-rev torque away.

Most agree that a CAI is the way to go.

has anyone found a decent intake system. i'm do not want to use a conical filter and an inlet tube straight to the throttle body. i'm trying to find a decent intake, maybe something that uses a box off to the side. i like my oe panel filter style, but the box doesn't move enough air. any custom made units, or will i need to devise my own ?

i really dont want to use a system like this, i've gotta 02 and the intake is layed out diferently, the duct feeds to the stock air box, which isn't the worst design, but to me, doesnt move enough volume of air. im looking for an air box possibly one i can build a duct system for. any ideas wuld be great

me me me me!!!

I took this from a fellow members write up it cost me 70$ ( the k&n was 60)

this is what you need!

1 - 45 elbow 2" with a street connection
1 - 40" 2" PVC
4 - 2.5" hose clamps
1- k&n filter

1st Step, take everything that makes up the air intake system out! leave the airbox and the black air collector.

2nd take the pvc and the elbow and join them together, if you want to make sure they stick take a little bit of clear silicon, and go around where the fittings are. I just used the hose clamp

3rd in the mess of stuff you took out from the car, find the piece that looks like an elephant trunk attach it to the air box, and your pvc intake tube with the hose clamps

4th join the other end to the intake air collector.

BAMMO!!

^^ that works only if you have a MAP intake, but yes that's the idea.
