ya, im stumped on this one, been trying for a while to figure it out but have had no luck.

absolutely nothing keeps any kind of retained memory in my car (stereo does not keep time/stations/equilizer settings, gauges do not retain their color[suppose to keep last color selected when you turn on/off vehicle], etc.) I thought it was just a dumb wire mistake that i made but i went over the wiring to my tach and my radio and everything is where its suppose to be, so ya......anyone have a clue?

fuse or break in the wire

there are fuses in the wire for the radio, but they are good, as for the tach, im not really sure as to why its resetting, all the other gauges i had installed previously did the same thing, but the layout for the wiring on the tach is as follows:

Signal, positive, and negative go to the tach sensor screws on the back of the instrument cluster, and accessory goes to the ignition fuse in the fuse box under the dash, no line breaks or other fuses are in the lines.

your tach is aftermarket im guessing. is it hooked in the wires for the radio somehow?
do any of these things work?
room light, step light, spot light, trunk light, door lock timer? if not fuse MB-9(#25 or #12) is blown. this is the fuse that keeps power to the radio to keep memory presets (#25 is in the main fuse panal and is forth down 15amp) (#12 is in the fuse box in the kickpanal in the middle row and is the thrid from the back 20amp) check those fuses

door lock timer? you mean an auto lock for like when you start to drive or something? other than that the others work fine but I will run thru the fuses during my lunch break or sometime in the morning before i head to work, new shift starting 2morrow, 10am-630pm, so I will have a little time in the morning to take a look.

part of the keyless entry setup or lock/unlock system on older subaru w/o keyless entry

i took a look in the fuse box under the hood and noticed that I am missing 1 of the 2 relays that are closest to the battery, the left one to be exact, is there suppose to be a relay there or is that empty for a reason?

no not the A/C relays, if you were looking at the fuse box from the front of the car, the 2 relays closest to you, at the bottom of the box, closest to the battery, lemme go snap a photo and I'll show you.
