what causes the leak? has anyone ever rebuilt this turbo? replacement parts are hard to find especially in this part of the world(manila) so I'm leaning towards the idea of rebuilding this turbo as much as possible. there is no play whatsoever. the center cartridge seem to be intact. we suspect the seal rings but they too seem to be intact.
I need help please!
thanks

VF13's blow all the bleeding time, they are faily useless little turbo's that fail frequently. More often than not when someone blows a 13 here, they replace it with it's bigger brother, the VF18, or even bigger yet, the VF26. The 18's can be had for around $50us here in NZ. I've never heard of rebuilding a 13 - but in manila... hrmmm yea....
Can you trust anyone to be able to rebuild it properly? But by the sounds of it, it doesn't sound too bad at all.
How hard is it to find a replacement? I could find an 18 to ship over, but shipping would be expensive as hell, and who knows if it'd make it to you in one piece...

i am considering changing to 18/19 that is if i could find one here. there is someone selling a complete bh engine and tranny assembly but its about 1100US$..ouch. people here are used to MHIs and garrets and usually don't bother with IHIs. on top of that, people stay away from tts because of the complexity of the install in lhd cars. i'll have to scour the importers here hoping to find 18/19s or at least a replacement 13. on the bright side, since they are so unpopular, hopefully they would be cheap.
damn, this sure is more complicated than my sr20det cefiro.hehe
i do believe its worth it though.

I do believe a single turbo conversion is worth it (check the sig), it makes the cars SOOOO much easier to work on, work with, and upgrade. But yeah, looking at $1000US to do it, and that's with the abundant parts in NZ.
Good luck with finding a VF13/18/26, hope you don't get nailed price wise
