Hey guys, I'm having issues with my 99 leggy wagon. I'm having torque bind issues and the AT Temp light is blinking constantly, also the car up shifts and down shifts really hard. I bought the car knowing it had bad head gaskets. The car drove fine and had no torque binding issues and the car shifted smoothly and the AT Temp light was not blinking. So i pulled the motor, did the head gaskets and put everything back together. Now, the car runs great, but it torque binds when turning slowly and the AT Temp light flashes, and the car seems not to shift correctly, as if it was low on trans fluid when its not... The car has 186k, trans fluid is clean and smells fine, no discoloration, and is not over filled. Im just stumped on what it could be. Could also be an error on my part as well, maybe i over looked something when i re-installed the engine. So can anyone help me out.??

Also i've read in other posts about counting how many times the AT Temp light flashes. I understand that based on how many times it blinks it gives you a code or something? Well, mine just blinks and dosent stop until i shut off the car.

I know this is a re-post, but i've read through every post that had to do with the Flashing AT Temp light, but nothing answered my quesitions so im re-posting with the hope that someone can help me out.

Thanks guys.

I know when mine blinks, it then goes away. And of course, I had some Mobil 1 fluid in the tranny. I drain and refill the tranny with OEM fluid and reset the ECU. The flashing lights went away. I'm not sure in your scenario where it stays on...

I wish mine was that easy to get rid of, but of corse it's not. Im gonna have to give it a once over on all the connectors and grounds just to be sure i didnt miss anything when i re-installed the engine. Lets just hope it's not anything serious.....

So i pulled the codes and here's what i got...

P0731 Gear 1 Incorrect Ratio

P1106 Undefined Code

P1106 (pd) Undefined Code

If these codes look familiar to anyone please let me know. Would love to know what they mean!!!

Thanks...

Hey guys, I'm having issues with my 99 leggy wagon. I'm having torque bind issues and the AT Temp light is blinking constantly, also the car up shifts and down shifts really hard.

Drain the fluid, refill with whatever ATF meets factory specs and throw in a bottle of Lubegard ATF Protectant (red bottle). Drive 10-100miles. See the torque problem goes away. I saved 3 Subaru's this way, I swear by Lubegard. It actually works.

sounds like a bad connection since it happened after motor install

Thats what i was thinking to. I guess i'll just have to re-trace all the wires to see if i missed anything.

So yea... I found the problem with my car. All it was, was a ground wire running from the battery to the trans. Now it shifts perfect and there is no more torque binding. So im glad thats done with..

Thanks everyone for the help. It was greatly appreciated...
