Brake upgrade

There happens to be an outback in the junk yard, and my brighton needs new front brakes. What is needed? Will my stock 14s still fit? Thanks

Outbacks have larger front brakes. Your 14s may not clear, but if you snag the Outback wheels and put new tires on you're good to go.

IMHO, I would never buy junkyard pads and rotors, and probably not the calipers either unless I had access to a media blaster or acid dip to remove corrosion.

Yeah, the calipers is what I was thinking. Do I need the rotors? mounts? ect.

If you are going to a larger size caliper you will probably need the caliper bracket and you might as well just buy new rotors and pads. If it's all pretty cheap you could buy the lot... just make sure you clean everything up good.

Go to www.raceshopper.com (http://www.raceshopper.com) and order some slotted rotors, better pads and good flex lines. Will make a big difference.

I did the swap on my L.


Deffinately get New Rotors/pads! I got some with a lifetime warranty, so I can just switch them out for free yearly.

As for the calipers, used is OK (Mine are) but to be honest, new is the obvious better choice but a decent used set should hold you down for a little while. Rears are the same. Don't forget to get the caliper brackets.

You can always get rebuilt calipers from autozone or napa. They're usually about $100/ea after the core I think. You can also order the seals yourself and rebuild used calipers yourself. I've had pretty good luck with used calipers though. As long as theyre not overly rusted (potentially seized piston) or the dustboots are still in good shape (meaning the seals underneath are still good) its a good chance they'll last you for a while.

Oh yeah, and you can get them loaded (w/pads) for $18 bbucks more in my area.
