View Full Version : Siezed Engine
yeahhhh...
i hit a rock, put a hole in the oil pan, tried to get to civilzation before i died in the middle of nowhere, barely made it, siezed engine due to lack of oil..
now i need a new engine (and oil pan)
is the 2.2L engine my only option or can i put in a 2.5 with or without swapping the ecu
help me,

you can swap in a 2.5, you might need to use your 2.2 harness on the engine. im not sure. the 2.5 SOHC you will need to wire in the injectors. the 2.5 DOHC should have no wiring issues. is just did a 1.8 to 2.5 swap. the 1.8 ecus runs the 2.5 great. the 2.2 ecu should run the 2.5 perfect.
so what all do i need?
do i need wires and the maf and intake stuff etc when i get a new motor?
for 2.2->2.2
and or 2.2->2.5
oh yeah, and just the 95-99 2.2L's fit correct?

Bad time to ask this, but are you gonna do the 5spd tranny swap too?
would it be a big pain to do it ata different time? i just want the thing to run again

Not IMO. But that's me and my capabilities.
It's not a requirement, i just asked 'cause you'd be half way there when your engine is out. But I hear ya, If it ain't broke, the don't try and fix it.

does your 2.2 have an egr?
2.2 to 2.2 really all you need is to match your engine code with the same EJ22"X" and need to match the its to single port headers or dual. or simple swap over manifolds to what the the heads are. thats the simplest thing to do.
yes you can use a newer 2.2 you will just need to either swap over fuel rails or harness and wire in injectors and swap some sensors and match manifolds to heads
2.2 to 2.5 DOHC really all you need to do is look over the harness connectors if they match its plug and play electric. just need to match manifold to heads.. if the connectors dont match you will need to swap over harnesses and maybe wire in injectors. if your 2.2 is egr less you need to block off the egr and vaccum lines and plug the tube ends
theres little things you might run into also
so the guy who installs engines said that the exhausts would be too long and he'd have to fab them in to fit since the block would be bigger than the 2.2... he said there wouldnt be room to put it in..
thats what my dad said... he talked to him..
are there going to be problems... will i have to swap to the dual port headers?

what? the exhaust line up? theres no difference in exhaust designs besides, single port and dual port for exhaust manifolds till 06
will i have to swap to the dual port headers?
Yes, 2.5 is dual port - I thought the 95 Legacy 2.2 was also dual port - mine is.
i just checked and i do have the dual port headers...
what is he talking about them being to long?
it will still bolt up just the same right.. its basically just plug and play with the usdm intake manifold?

Yes and the intake manifold will interchange too.
wait, so i dont need a usdm 2.5l intake manifold? the one from my 2.2 will work?
Edit: Sorry, it looked like it would interchange but we just tried it and the bolt pattern is not the same. You will need an EJ25 intake manifold.
