question about DIY BD mud flaps

so i'm gonna do this this year.
i hate how when i drive in the rain it gets sooooo dirty.

anyways i know a bunch of people have made them on here some my question are directed at you.

- what exact part should i drill into to hold the flaps in place?
- how far down from the side skirt is too far/ whats best length?
- the part of the mud flap in the wheel well thats unseen, is the whole peice a rectangle or do you cut out a quarter circle ?? (biggest question) (can someone take pics?)

I dont have a template or anything, but what we did on my buddies GF was take a set of RALLYARMOUR flaps from our other friends GC, and trace them. Then we got some $7 truck mudflaps at Advance Auto, and just cut them to the template. On his car, we attached them to the factory holes from the Inner fender, but on the BD/BG you wont get that luxury. I would just drill a set of small holes in that extra little lip of the fender and run a bolt w/washers.

That's a damn nice legacy! I have a BD and I made my own without any template or previous experience. I just looked at the rally armor and other DIY pictures and based mine off of them. I'll try to get some pictures and measurements for you. I used the holes already drilled in the inner wheel well, I'm not sure if they are stock or if the previous owner made them. I bought a large rubbermaid storage bin a Wal-Mart for $8 and got all 4 flaps out of it. Then I used some self-tapping screws that I had laying around for the attachment. I bought some nuts and bolts at a hardware, but they ended up being too small and it was too hard to get a nut on the back side of the body. Last time I took my car through the mud the rear passenger flap got ripped off and i need to make another one. Again, I'll get some pics of the whole setup up.

i'm thinking about using a plastic bin for most and then maybe add something softer on the bottom so when i go over speed bumps it doesn't scrape.

could be cool.

- how far down from the side skirt is too far/ whats best length? I went pretty low, for looks and function. Ya, they scrape when I turn hard, hit a speed bump, or sneeze hard :cool: but I don't mind. I'm used to it but new passengers always jump.

Finally got some pics taken. I only took pictures of the rear ones since I lost my passenger rear one and had to make a new one. The procedure for the front is same with smaller dimensions.

i recently made mine out of two home depot bins for like $10 total. But yea i managed to still use my stock screws that came from the stock flaps.

ROFL! I WAS going down that route, identical in fact, except my neighbor gave me a 4'x1'X1/4" sheet of conveyer belt from an old steel mill. I now have some of the heaviest, burliest, most impressive mudflaps I've ever seen on a car.
