View Full Version : Coolant steady drip - water pump/gasket failure?

Noticed today that I have developed a steady drip, 4 drips per second or so. It looks like it's coming from between the water pump and the engine block, falling onto the lip where the oil pan meets the block, and then to the ground.

I'm guessing that can be the only source (water pump or the gasket) for a leak like that? Would I find out more if I took the timing belt cover off? I guess it's only going to get worse and I'll have to take the whole thing apart and replace the water pump and timing belts anyway...

Ok... since nobody has any other insight I'm going with water pump gasket.

And since replacing it would require removing the timing belt and related pieces, I'm just going to forget it. Motor Swap time - the turbo EJ257 frankenmotor is going in the white wagon. While the thing is out we'll replace the clutch too.

its the waterpump/gasket or the metal line for the heater hose that runs up beside the head
