Bumper Idea: What do you think?

So, I am hating my stupid "shark gills" style bumper. It's to round, doesn't flow with the lines on the rest of the car, and overall just plain makes me upset.

So, looking at other options, I'm really liking the 2004-05 WRX bumper. It's clean and reminds me of this one:

BUT doesn't cost $1200+

Also, its lines are the closest to stock in terms of the headlights and curves, so I think that it would be the easiest to blend with mine (the plan being to use the top part of mine and plastic weld it to the rest of the WRX one.)

It would be a project I know, but the only other option is the 03-04 Legacy bumper which is nice, but this is different.

Anyway, here's a quick PS of what it would look like.

What are your opinions?

I've always thought an 04-05 WRX/STi front end would look killer on a BE.

I say do it, but if your funds don't allow, the 03/04 bumper is a nice and easy upgrade.

def document how to fit the 04-5 bumper to a BE if you go through with it! I could use a bigger lower opening...

Oh I definitely would. This will probably happen this summer if I can find a cheap used one. I'm worried the widths may not be the same, but I guess we'll see.

I also need to see if I can find a used one for cheap, and maybe a used BE one too so I don't have to drive around without a bumper.

Throw a V lip on it if you do.

This will take some work to get it right...you can't slap it on and call it a day.

I'm not expecting anything to just go right on. It's just a thought experiment right now, and until I have both sitting in front of me i won't know how hard it'll be.

I've always personally thought that the Rev. D JDM front bumper was the best looking front end besides the kouki S401 front end on a BE. I'd rather source one of these two bumpers than try and fab something up that may end up not working. Just my opinion.

Ooo, that is neat. But not financially smart right now for me to be sourcing rare JDM stuff. I'm thinking about trying this because I could:
A. probably get someone's used bumper for cheap
B. Have something different,
and C. have a cool project to work on during the summer since I won't be in school and I work 3 12's during the week, so I'll have some time on my hands when not at work.

It may very well (and very probable) not work right. But at least when someone else gets the idea they'll have a reference of what went wrong right?

This is a possibility.


It can be done with patience and the right tools. The only "issues" you should encounter off the bat, will be the size difference between the 2 bumpers. If they're both Eurathane bumpers, this shouldn't be that hard. Don't get discouraged. You're on the right track.

I'm pretty sure they are ABS, and with a good plastic welder and some patience, it could work. But yea, size difference will be a hurdle, but who knows, maybe it's close enough.

I'm sure they are too, but can't say %100. And like I said earlier: You're on the right track. A good plastic welder will net you the best results if you've never done it before. I know this is a long shot, but do you have any motorcycle body repair shops nearby? If so, they should do the best plastic repair and custom work on plastics.
