well as much as I wanted actual rally armor mudflaps, they cost massive amounts of $ and they don't make them for my car. so I made some of my own. here are some teaser pics. I still have a special logo to paint on em

Dude! Those flaps are awesome! I really love the whole color scheme match. You don't really see many DIY flaps in colors, that's so cool.

Are the cutting boards more plastic or more of a rubber? Like how flexible are we talking here? It always bugged me that my flaps would scrape loudly in a turn.

found some properties on the material the cutting board is made of... perfect material for a mud flap I think

HIGH DENSITY POLYETHYLENE
HPDE is more rigid and harder than lower density materials. It also has a higher tensile strength, four times that of low density polyethylene, and it is three times better in compressive strength. meets FDA requirements for direct food contact applications.

Features
Abrasion Resistant
Excellent abrasion resistant product preventing gouging, scuffing and scraping.

Exceptional Impact Strength
one of the highest impact resistant thermoplastics available Properties are maintained even at extremely low temperatures.

Chemical Resistant
has very good chemical resistance of corrosives as well as stress cracking resistance Water Resistant

Moisture and water (including saltwater) have no affect on it. It can be used in fresh and salt water immersion applications

im taking plastics in college...ive worked with both high density and low density polythylene
low density is kind of rubbery but high density is pretty sturdy...i have some right next to me and it only bends about 15 degrees

Dude, I've got to do this...

97legacyGT2.5
08-29-2009, 12:40 AM
I found some dimensions i belive they were for the STI RallyArmor flaps. i changed them slightly

Fronts
HL 13" HR 7"
WT 3" WB 9"

Rears
HL 14.5" HR 8.75"
WT 4" WB 10"

HL=height left
HR=height right
WT=width top
WB=width bottom

The curve in the flap was basicly free hand making the top and right side meet
These are just the dimensions for the right (passengers) side once you have one flip it over on another sheet, trace it out, cut it out, and there you go flaps made

(i had extra pices of the chopping board and used them to mess round and make templates. Ex. figure out the bolt holes and that stuff) I still have the templates.

let me know what you think

Here is the ones I cut.. I used the sizes that 97legacyGT2.5 gave

I don't think I cut the curve deep enough for the rears.. I'd have to check in the morning.

lol they want $129 for some flaps...

anyways I gotta go up to RI anyways on Friday and back up to New Haven on Saturday lol I'd have to pass the store anyways again. I hate when people want you to go someplace and just because it's in CT does not mean it's going to be just a 5 min drive...

IKEA shipping is a rip off... when I visit IKEA I take a van and I come back with an entire room of stuff. ;)

You guys really should have just bought $10 truck flaps... I'll be installing mine in a couple of weeks.

yeah I took the old flaps off I was just testing t see if I cut them well enough..

Anyways all flaps are on and like always one bolt snapped lol and about three did not want to come out and one of them I had to cut off with a dremel..

Looks pretty good should hold well at 80 Mph I spray painted all of them flat black with 2 coats.

1324- looks good, but pretty low. Get ready to scraaaaaaaaaape on EVERY corner. mine are a lot higher than that and scrape on hard corners or steep driveway curbs, but I can live with it for the looks/protection I get.

figured i'd chime in since i posted it, and realized the thread blew up. For mine / Brandon's I borrowed a friends rally armor and traced a template. I then used a heat gun to lightly heat up the mudflap material. used a metal straight edge and a new razor to cut through it nice and smoothly. the rounded corners i cut to the best I could then used sandpaper to make sure they were smooth.

lol the stock flaps would scrap period I'm still on the struts that came with the car 209K later...

I haven't heard any scraps other then leaving the driveway (who cares) but I have not done any hard cornering yet.

Thanks and so on my way back home I thought about this post and one of the ramps were pretty tight so I turned as much as I could before the tires started to howl and I did not hear any scraping.. so I might of got them just right.. I will see...

Just to double check, you guys are talking about the DRÄLLA Bendable chopping board $1.99 / 2 pack http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90131935 correct? They apparently don't have Ikea's here in Colorado and it's not available online so I'm going to have to get my mother to ship me some and I want to make sure she grabs the right ones. At least she won't mind, she loves that place.

Just wondering if any one has had any problems with the IKEA flaps?
sofar mine have been holding up wonderfuly. i get a lot less spray from the salt on the side of my car.
even with these freezing tempatures i am suprised they have held up as well as they have.

1-3-2-4
01-13-2010, 04:54 PM
no.. when cold they get stiff but nothing wrong with them.. I did I think break the bolt or the metal rusted on my car when I hit a snow bank for fun it was only about 4 inches high but I heard the front flaps hit it but I need to get a replacement nut.

chatter or do you mean shatter? it's a flexable board.. I posted a video of it too.

HeresMyMind
02-20-2010, 04:22 PM
they will bend even easier than that video. the video has a unwrapped pack of 2. singles are more flexible. for 8$ these are by far the best mudflap rally style. they are made of non-stick cutting board material so ice mud and shit rinses right off.
