You can get pops if your exhaust diameter is a tad too large. My Impreza 2.0L NA ran a 2.5" exhaust header back and got plenty of pops and "overruns" when downshifting. Ran like a scared cat though!

Thanks guys but I wouldn't want to mess with the timing, I might get bad fuel consumption or even mess my engine.. Or are my fears overshot?? I wudnt mind getting a pop or two when I downshift tho..so volutarilly especially on a track day car what can I do??

Was yours an HX, an RX-i or an SRX? Forgot :-? (Shoosh, haven't had coffee yet)

I never got that on the ver4 ECU of mine, but I've got a ver3 one now and OH LAWD, engine braking gives it some epic backfires, gurgles, pops and flames...

Will also run a low 16 down Meremere. Haven't pushed for more for years. That about classifies as startled cat...

think i could do it in my auto with uel headers and my STi catback with the stock cats if i ever get it on? or would i have to take the cats out? I manualy downshift from 4th to 3rd or 4th to 2nd all the time into corners
