this is confusing me a little
i m searching for a seal set for and EJ25d engine from a 98 lego wagon GT

i notice there are two sets available for ej25
first one is approximate 100 cheaper

litre cu.in cc year h eng.des cyl# val stem g/od style models
-2.5L 150 2457 96-02 dohc ej25 L4 16V .235 .436 vsb auto, suv
-2.5L 150 2457 97-98 dohc ej25d,z L2 16v forest,legacy

what makes the 25d/z so special to have its unique set ?

That's confusing, since it apparently is for an 'L2', which would be an 'Inline 2'? I have no idea. I'd hit the second one, it lists the Legacy/Forester DOHC 2.5 97-98, whereas the first one lists 'SUV'. I think the second one is going to be 'better' for the 1998 LGT, I'd call the place selling though and ask some detailed questions though.

I say stay away from the place you are trying to order it from. Theres no 00-02 DOHC. Theres a Phase 1 and phase 2 EJ25. I don't remember if the Phase 2 SOHC is a EJ25D though.

I know the EJ25D is in the US '98-'99 Impreza 2.5RS. It was not SOHC. I don't know if it's in anything else. And my US '00 Legacy GT Limited has an EJ252 (which is SOHC). I don't know if any of that helps...

turns out the same OEM part numbers are used for the impreza 2.5 engines and the 97-99 legacy engines ej25d/dz d being wagon z forrester , not sure what makes the 97-99 set more exspensive - ebay is wacK

I always thought the 'D' in EJ25D meant it was DOHC. :p

I have no idea, but the JDM Legacy may have used the EJ25DE until 2002, but I'll have to look it up. Okay, forget that, Wikipedia has the worst information ever on Subaru engines. Wow. I have no idea.

the SOHC model is the EJ251 which evolved into the EJ253

Yeah, wikipedia is no good for specific information. I only use it for general, well-known information. The more technical/specialized the information becomes, the less the oversight is available.
