View Full Version : How to get axles out of rear diff?
I'm swapping my diff out, It's lowered down and unbolted from the car. How do i get the rear axles out? There aren't any spring pins in there, do i just pry them out?
Get a long prybar and pry between the axle and diff. Make sure you pry against the bolts on the cover though, and DO NOT pry directly against the cover itself, it is sensitive and will crack. The bolts provide a good point to pry against.
oops, good thing i came on here instead of trying to pry harder...
I was prying against the retainer piece..
Longest prybar i got is 12", guess it's just a matter of using more force.
Ok got it off.. next question, i'm trying to swap the diff out.
The new (used) diff i got didn't have the two studs that go into the bushings on the rear crossmember.
Is there anyway to get those out of my old diff? I tried vise grips but just marked the stud up..
Or is it gonna be easier just to buy new ones..

might be easier to by new studs. they like to rust.. try doublt nutting the stud and they should pull out
Are you talking about the two studs that come from the rear cover? If so, you can just unbolt and switch the covers. It's a 12mm IIRC.
yeah those are the studs I'm talking about.
looks like there's a gasket there that would have to be replaced.. i'll probably just get new ones im' sure they dont cost that much..
i just hate waiting the 4-5 days or whatever it is for parts from the dealership!
