I'm like Ben. I'm not doing it for "aggressive fitment", I'm just trying to cram as much wheel and tire in the fenders as I can without killing my ability to haul stuff. I just end up taking up every last millimeter of what I can get away with. Rolled and pulled, front and rear.

Yikes, I'm too chicken to use a baseball bat. Also I'm in Toronto. I figure I at least give a proper shot at rolling the fender to avoid bare metal and rust. I'm running 205/45 r16s, so not big rims and tires at all. Every once in a while if I take embankments etc with lots of steering lock, the tire will grab the lip and bend it out. Luckily it's easy to pop back in place.

I'm the douchebag in the purple and white shirt.....yes it was planned.

So i wanto get these and was wondering if 17x8 et35 would fit from what i have read it sounds like it might but barely. Now im used to hondas and if it doenst fit just add camber but our suspension isnt like that so... will they fit well or NO dice

hallowpoint
07-14-2010, 04:55 PM
^you can do it but dont run a tire bigger than 225/45. but you will need a slight fender roll depending on your suspension.

Kuppa
07-15-2010, 10:55 AM
Ok cool i was hoping all i would need is to roll the fenders but was thinking it might be a little low offset to fit well. As far as suspension i was prob gonna get some GC coilovers maybe some godspeed or yonaka coilovers and nexen tires

Kuppa
07-24-2010, 03:50 AM
Also i was looking at the Rota IK-F 8.5 wide in 44 et those would prob fit much better along with giving me a lil more tire stretch. OK so now im wondering could i fit 17x9.5 45ET with out crazyy fender rolling/flaring

sybir
08-04-2010, 09:52 PM
No. Look at my fenders. They're rolled and pulled. That's with a wheel that's basically the same offset and an inch narrower. Not happening without major fender work, if at all.

Kuppa
09-01-2010, 05:16 PM
But the other ones would fit at 8.5 et 44

sybir
09-04-2010, 08:28 PM
That will fit with a considerable amount of effort, yeah. Just built a twin of my wagon with a buddy and put my RC-T4's on his car. Took quite a bit of work - it's easy for me to forget how much small fender work I've done over the last 10 years, lol. Much more drastic all at once.

16x8.5 with 205 45s and an offset of 32. Most adapters are 20mm. Do you reckon an offset that low (12) would fit on a bg5? There's a bit of stretch on the tires. Trying to figure out what to run next summer. Might have to redrill these rims if I get them. And also a more general question. What's typically the widest rims that a bg5 could take, 9.5?

You can't run staggered on an AWD. If you want stretch, 18x8 will get you nowhere.

Matty2Hotty
11-13-2010, 09:28 PM
You CAN run staggered on AWD since i seen it done but not great for the car or looks, its just you HAVE to run the same Tires front to back if i remember right

Matty2Hotty
11-14-2010, 07:45 PM
I think anything lower then +35 offset you will be poking "inches", ideal offsets are around 40. I could be wrong.

chromehorn
11-14-2010, 08:51 PM
Looking for poke. Looking at mine above. Those rims are a 42 offset and look no where near flush. Rear fenders aren't even rolled. I think I'm gonna get 16x8.5 with a 23 offset made. Then test fit. Work with it if I can, if not, I'll split the steel face and barrel and adjust offset.

Few minutes of searching, I found this. 22 Offset.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/yokotas13/ ... 361905142/ (http://www.flickr.com/photos/yokotas13/2723747651/in/set-72157606361905142/)

If you run the same tyres you will still have problems due to the stretch decreasing rolling diameter on the wider wheels. Slight differences will ruin your centre diff.

I don't think anyone is even running non Subaru 16s. 16x8.5 +23 will get you quite a bit of poke and stretch you'd get with 17s and that set up.

chromehorn
11-15-2010, 12:11 AM
Still racking some numbers here.

16x8 might work better. The steelies are 16x6.5 Subaru rims with a 48 offset. Adding 1.5 inch to the lip bring the offset to 28-29. Much more manageable.

for reference..
http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.p ... ht=steelie (http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?5078550-THE-widen-steelie-with-THE-B6-hubcaps&highlight=steelie)

sybir

Stretching doesn't affect outside rolling diameter. Running a different width isn't the end of the world with the same tire diameter; some of the old timeattack setups were experimenting with different widths front and rear to tune turn-in response.

It's getting different widths, even if you were able to match OD, that would concern me, because you're changing the "grip balance" front to rear. I'd expect a center diff to pack up in that case much quicker than any minor OD mismatch.

That said, I don't really like stretching.

That said, here's my car on 18x8.5's with a 225/40/18, lol. It's not herrafrush, would need a 15mm spacer, more camber, and more low.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2006/08/IMG_8517JPG-1.jpg

It does make for tons of room as far as fitment is concerned, I could lower the car another inch with no issues. Not really my style, but I got the tires for free and wanted to bolt on the wheels before I sold them.

Stupid questions... Just did brakes- calipers, rotors, dot4 fluid, SS lines.... Notice on all my brakes I have a angled/uneven pad wear on just 1 pad on each caliper. This doesn't have anything at all due to my super negative camber since the calipers attach to the entire hub correct?

StyleWagon
02-22-2011, 08:48 AM
That doesn't sound like anything camber oriented. One that that could do it is worn out wheel bearings. That would cause the hub to sit sightly angled while everything else is in place correctly. Thats my only guess.

i hate chrome wheels on subarus personally BUT 329 shipped..so thats like around 600 for wheels and tires xD
perfect width and offset for me..and they normally go for 200 each shipped but i think have been discontinued
the only used wheels i found i liked were some work vs-vv for like 1250 shipped but they are chrome also and only 17x7.5+41
and i really dont think that would be aggressive enough for being $1000 more
...i really cant decide...but this seems best for my wallet xD
but i guess maybe i can just dishout the extra 200 for some sterns or dual lug wheels

So let me get this straight...

So lets say rims are like sex. The car has to have it.. The body has to have it.
And lets say now that cheap rims is equal to cheap sex.
Now lets say that sex with a hooker is $1000 a night. And those rims brand new where $1000.
Now most people don't like hookers.. and most people dont like chrome wheels.
Now lets say the hooker gives you 80% off.. Does that instantly mean you have to take the deal?
Now lets say you take the hooker up on her offer. You contract STD/STi's.. not so good
In relation you run the chrome wheels and think shit.. I bought chrome wheels.

chromehorn
02-01-2012, 07:12 PM
A +25 offset on an 8, you will need to roll both front and rears. You'll need alot of camber too. Can't fit wheels with very low offset on the second gens.

Matty2Hotty
02-01-2012, 11:17 PM
I think they would be flush, I was 8.5 with +35 on my second gen with only a slight roll in the rear. Full lock left/right in the front with no rubbing.

Hey guys so Im in the mood for new rims and been rota had just released thier new rims MXRs that it comes in is 18x9.5 with a +38 offset.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2012/02/IMG5079M-1.jpg
It was choice between these and XXR's 527 in 18x8.5 with an offset of +35.
http://www.wheelsnext.com/images/wheels/large/XXR_521_BKFL_2.jpg
Honestly I like the rotas better but Im worried about the 9.5 width and the offset. I know that the offset will make it flush but will the wheel even got from lock to lock with an appropriate tire?

Any and all thoughts??

chromehorn
02-05-2012, 11:48 PM
The 9.5 in the front extend 2mm further out than my setup last season. I had my fenders rolled, stretched tires and 3 degrees of camber. I'd be more worried about inner clearance. I'd also be worried about rubbing in the rears. My rears are rolled as well and had 4 degrees of camber. This all depends on the size of tires you decide on and the amount of drop you have. You'll be fine with the Rotas though.

240_benzo
02-06-2012, 10:26 AM
those are the xxr 521s btw...but i dig those rotas!
i found me a set of audi TT rep wheels for under 400 in 18x8.5+20 hopefully thats not too aggressive to run less than -2 camber and some well deservered fender lovin

WESTcoast
02-06-2012, 03:09 PM
I was thinking that maybe with the higher offset being +38 I would be able to get away with less camber. Im trying to go for the flush track car look. by the time I buy make a decision on the rims I will have coilovers and access to a fender roller so I cand pull out my fenders a bit more.

Thanks 240, yeah im really digging the rotas alot but the 521s are clean nice and they are in the size that would know that would work for me 18x8.5 +35 but the rotas are just too sexy to pass up!!

There's a lot of oddly fitted cars in here. Here's mine:

The wheels are actually flush, although the picture doesn't look it. I'm in the process of pulling my fenders, so I'll be able to go a lot lower.

I have 17x8 38 offset with Kyb struts/H&R springs and the tire is just about rubbing on the rear struts, had to slightly roll the fenders in the rear. Not sure if Kyb's are larger or smaller diameter as stock, I would assume the same though. If you go an offset of 35 and at stock height should be fine.

But, this I do not get. is this an extreme example of form superseeding ALL function? I guess it's "driveable", but tire wear anyone?? on what like $200-$300 tires?? Besides, how does that even work? Are the axles bent UP going into the spindle/hub?

:smt017

At any rate, specific details like "function" of an automobile aside, the work, interior, paint, and the overall total package of the car, etc. ARE still pretty sweet! :smt002

My wife is the same. She like playing connect the dots on the road.

Lol . . . . .

Idk if my setup is aggressive or not, but for the shitty roads around here it is. I run 04' sti struts, eibach sport springs, and paranoid 1/4" butt spacers. My normal wheels tires are 05' LGT spokes with 215/50/17 goodyears.

Today I put the rotas off my wifes old/totalled GC coupe on to decide if I wanted to keep them or sell them. They are more aggressive for sure, I think I might plasti-dip them and run them for a while. They are 225/45/17, no idea on backspacing

Im starting to like the 215/50 tire look on 17s

Off set/back space looks like +45/+40?

Sold the car a long time ago. Never got official pics when it was with smaller tires and lower, think they are on an old phone somewhere.

Again.

Not the greatest picture, but I had much less room up front on my BH.

Had to roll the fronts flat, no fender mods to the rear. I'm also fairly low.

Love the BBS and the drop.....Sweet ride bro, let's see some more photos.

Love it man, and love the low, my BD used to be as low as the scraped crusaders legacy wagon but now my car is low very low, close to slammed but not technically slammed anymore.
