So i would like to put an impreza wrx front end on my legacy wagon..
(F bumper, Hood, Grill, Headlights, Fenders, Radiator Core support)

i have everything to convert it to a 93-01 front end
but here are my options
93-01 impreza front end
02-03 Bugeye front end with EDM headlights <my fav pick
04-05 peanut with sti scoop
06-07 hawkeye/pignose < most expensive but second fav.

vote!!

if the votes are high for the impreza front it will be done rather soon but if any others win then it will be a few months before the swap is complete!! but this is definate i want to do this!

I personally love the front end of the 93-01 front end But I'm not so sure how well the lines will line up with the rest of the car. My next choice would be the 02-03 bugeye for sure though

xXGTBspecXx
05-19-2009, 09:26 PM
keep in mind if i do a bugeye swap il use sedan fenders (flaired) the wagon fenders are too subtle for my look.

ehh. personally i wouldnt think any impreza front end would look good with the legacy.. if your looking for addgressive. grab some gardeners foam, fiberglass and resin. and widebody the b**ch

i still have the wide body for the GC8 dont give me ideas dammit lol..

Well if you have to do something - I think Pignose would look really good and unique! 04-05 will almost make it look like a baby BH I think, which could also be cool.

I think your car looks good as is but a bugeye front does sound intriguing

thanks but now that someone on this forum has the same headlights as me i want something different. i like to be one of a kind.

05-22-2009, 07:15 PM
Whoever voted for the last option is pretty generic.

Do something different. Something other than jdm headlights and grille.
I voted for the 93-01 front end. Tho i would love to see the newer style front ends too. That'll be alot of body work right there. Good luck.

05-22-2009, 11:44 PM
not really i did some measuring today while i was in MD and my car my mothers WRX and my sti all have the same dimensions.. should just bolt on to be honest. just need to cut my core support out and replace it with whichever car i choose to swap with. if i had $1100 id so do a 06-07 front.. grrr

So i would like to put an impreza wrx front end on my legacy wagon..

:smt009 Here we go........................... again.

IF or when you start this, let me know. I'll comment or give you a helping hand then.

05-23-2009, 10:32 AM
no problem man.. i was actually thinking that when i get the core support i was gunna use rivets or bolts so it can be removed ... i just like to be original.. i love the way my car looks but someone has my headlights.

decke48
05-23-2009, 08:24 PM
..hmm isnt the impreza a tad shorter (wide) then the legacy. and would involve cuting and streching the bumber and hood

xXGTBspecXx
05-23-2009, 09:35 PM
negative

05-24-2009, 02:30 AM
wait.. whats so different about your headlights? arent they the jdm projectors? i thought you sold the wagon

 NOT a good idea. Think: Road vibration.

I like to be original too, but not pull into my driveway, get out my car and look at it having a crooked nose after driving a few days. Just weld it. Irregardless of what you or your friends did before; weld it. Why short cut on a big build? And yes, you'll find out later, that this wasn't a "Simple" swap.

..hmm isnt the impreza a tad shorter (wide) then the legacy. and would involve cuting and streching the bumper and hood

:smt023 (Not the bumper) But let him try to line the doors up to the fenders. I don't know who told you this was easy, but alot of this is NOT bolt on. %90 of the bolt holes are'nt going to line up as well as body parts, so you'll have to re-weld new points as well as drill new holes and weld certain pieces together. Your geometry skills must be up to par before starting this swap. An increment off here or there, and everything else becomes a nightmare to line up there after. I love it when people minimalize bodywork! Almost every bodyswap/conversion we've ever done takes more than just bolting on a few parts and PRESTO!! You're done!

Back to the dream.... er... drawing board my friend.

Again, this can be done (just not as easy as it seems) but patience, proper tools and ingenuity is a must.

xXGTBspecXx
05-24-2009, 08:45 AM
i was prepared to drill holes and weld nuts to bolt on the new fenders. as for everything else should be easy for me to do.. just let me find out..

I thought he sold it as well.

yea my headlights are jdm projectors but i have them painted black and i have a yellow highbeam section that has been copied. so i want to swap another front end on my car.

I will let you find out. I went and did some homework on a nose swap myself. I found it to be more for everyone else' s visual enjoyment, and not worth the $. My opinion. If you want to be original, design and build something from the ground up. Just because you haven't seen the car here or anywhere online, doesn't mean that there isn't 1 already done.

My vote: Try what Decke suggested:

if your looking for addgressive. grab some gardeners foam, fiberglass and resin. and widebody the b**ch

You could be as different and original as you'd want and still integrate Impreza headlights and grill.

Bottom line: Let's see pics of the beginning process, other than your headlights off the car. You wouldn't have posted a poll, if you were dead set on what you had to do... or are you still sleeping?

...am i still sleeping.. ha. bud you just dont know what im actually capable of doing now do you.. i know you think your a god cause you work in a body repair shop. i dont care.. the front end of my car is changing using OEM parts. building something fr4om the ground up and using wrx lights?? thats called rice. ever seen a mazda mx3 with supra tail lights.. yea its gay as hell. not the look im going for. also im trying to save wight here not gain. i have a purpose built race car and getting freaky with bondo isnt what im after.

fenders, bumper, lights, grille, hood, core. all line up.. SF5 parts even line up..(forester)

04-05
06-07
i kinda had all model years at my disposal when i measured everything did you forget that my mom has a 06 wrx and i own both a 95 STi and my legacy. and i own a tape measure.

sorry if i come off as a dick but i dont like it when people try and talk down to me.

05-24-2009, 10:03 PM
when we move june 6th il start swaping a 93-01 front on my car.. dont have the money just yet to do the bugeye swap. and im pretty sure i wont need to change the core support for this swap either..

 :smt011 You can't... and I'll say it: YOU CAN'T DO HALF OF WHAT i'M CAPABLE OF how's that. I said it. Thanks for your "god" comment. I don't think i'm a body repair god. Your words, not mine. I can't help it, if I know what I know. And BTW, I'm not speaking about this swap without experience. I was hunting down this option in the summer of 2006 and ran into some obstacles.

Now:

...also im trying to save weight here not gain.... i have a purpose built race car and getting freaky with bondo isnt what im after.

Then why go after a sheet metal nose, and not replicate what you have with fiberglass or Carbon Fiber??..... Oh yeah, expensive. I forgot.

building something fr4om the ground up and using wrx lights?? thats called rice.

So isn't swapping the front of your Legacy for an Impreza. How much HP or torque do you get?
Why not an 05+ Legacy? Lights are almost similar Just a thought.

sorry if i come off as a dick but i dont like it when people try and talk down to me

I hear ya. Me too. No problem. For as long as you see that I'm just venting too. :smt023 But alot of people here would like to try this as well. Being upfront and not minimalizing the amount of work that goes into something as big as this would be key to clarifying the level of skill needed to do such a swap. I like your ambition and quest for originality, but this is a board for opinions.

I would like to see this go through, but I do realize that I don't want to be a part of this situation anymore. Post pics as you go. I'll keep quite on your post and you can PM me any differences you might have. Good luck. Seriously.

Did I miss something? I thought this wagon was sold? I haven't been on the board for a few weeks and the place goes to shambles. If that car is still around I've been waiting for several weeks for a reply to my PMs about JDM window rainguards.

hey man if i sold the car you can have them but they are mounted on my car.. il get you some.. as for okin. just sit back and relax il do the work.

05-28-2009, 08:38 PM
personally I never really liked the headlights on them too much

xXGTBspecXx
05-29-2009, 12:50 PM
well i look at it like this. the cars on the list including the BE all have CF hoods and fenders available. i really need to start lightening this car up. when i move il be stripping all the interior out of it. so there will be alot of stuff that will be thrown away or used for out door furniture lol.

if you can get it for free, then give it a shot. it might look good. plus you'd be able to get different lips for it.

cf hoods and body kits too! hehe.

MoclovFlop
05-31-2009, 03:46 PM
Aside from the Honda lips people use, what lips are available for the BE that you're referring to?

And body kits might work on the front if you do a BE front, but then the rear is still not right.

Same for a carbon hood, it may match in the front but the curve at the windshield will be off.

Both of which you can get for your BK without a new front end BTW.

Oh, and link to previously mentioned carbon fenders for a BE?!?!

Edit: Not trying to sound like a dick, just want to see the reasoning.

hmmmm, so iv seen a decent amount of front end swaps, and pretty much everyone had atleast one thing in common. Custom Fenders. I have never seen one done where the fenders were not cut in half (leaving the original door seam and other body line indications on the rear of the fender while using the fronts to match up with the rest of the new front end), so i dont know how you think u will be able to get CF fenders for it unless your going to lay it yourself.

just looking at the pictures you posted in the thread you can tell that this WILL be a problem to hurtle.

Not trying to be a dick, but its something you should be aware of while going into this project. GL with the swap!

THATS A GOOD IDEA and i never thought of that (cutting fenders) i might but i dont know yet. i lined my door line with my moms wrx and they are identicle. thanks for that tho il do a bit more reading before hand :smt024 .. but i know my GC8 parts will line up fine.

I've done some more research on this.... :smt009 At least on my end. I found 2 more problems.

I believe you could do it, just not in a simple bolt on and go. Some brackets will have to be made for both the fender and bumper cover, not to mention trimming of the fenders and hood. I guess those of us that are supposedly "against" you, are just perfectionists, 'cause the only concern that is common is the overall bodylines when this is done.

Again, for the record:

I'm not knocking you. I'd like to see this done.

not so much. umm im just worried about length of the fender. well see. i dont do alot of research i have an idea and run with it and make it work. but as far as ive seen it should be pretty straight forward.

il tell you what. when i start fitting parts if it is hard then il admit on here that i was wrong.
but if it was easy. then your just going to have to deal with the fact that I told you so..

I agree. Will someone just post some actual pictures to see if it's even possible? It takes about 5mins to take a fender off.

no backing out. ive already drew out the plans.. all im worried about is the fitment on the widebody around the gas cap.. if it doesnt then a fuel cell is in order. damn i cant wait...im really excited to do this. lol the wide body will make my car look like a 98 BMW M coupe. then il need wheels or spacers for it so it doesnt look like a hover craft.

Huffer

Just extend the fuel filler neck section OR run a recessed locking mechanism on the rear quarterpanel. Looking forward to this.

xXGTBspecXx
06-05-2009, 10:43 AM
hmm im worried about the different sizes of the gas flap. and opening effortlessly. if it doesnt. il either extend the fuel filler neck and make it come out to the rear quarterpanel so theres no flap or cap just stick the nozzle in and filler up. but thats probably a bad idea.

xXGTBspecXx
06-05-2009, 10:44 AM
and il be keeping my legacy front end. so no pms asking how much for what.

Huffer
06-05-2009, 12:44 PM
You could always relocate the fuel filler neck to the INSIDE of the trunk, a la hot-rod style. You'd just have to rotate the neck and make a bracket for it.

Then pull up closer to the pump. I've never had any problems with my Cadillac - it has an old school filler in the center, where the license plate is. There is usually plenty of hose to go around.

BenO

did this fairly fast. The legacy front end is longer than the GC I think. angles are a bit off on the chop but you get the general idea right? I think it's going to look awesome once all done especially with widebody that thing will be a monster

Dude, seriously. Next time you pull up to pump gas, open the hatch and see how far in the handle+hose goes.

As for the hole on the side of the body kit - just fill it by making a plates on the underside, fill the cavity. Or fiberglass over the top - it's going to get painted anyway, right?

As for the rear 1/4, If you don't go with the original filler door, make sure you do back it when you fill it. It would suck to do twice. lay off the bondo here as much as you can. Try fusing the gaps with strips of tiger hair or buying the calking style bonding agent meant to work with fiberglass.

Your local marine store parts guy should replace your Autozone hook up. :smt023 They sometimes have a wide(r) variety of fiberglass and it's different components.

yea my headlights are jdm projectors but i have them painted black and i have a yellow highbeam section that has been copied. so i want to swap another front end on my car.

Someone copied your original headlights? Pretty sure I did a write up before you were even a member on yellow highbeamed projectors

Anyway. Good luck doing the swap. As far as I know, the GC front ends are narrower and shorter than a legacy. I don't really know how you plan a "widebody" look with a narrower car to begin with. Swapping out the front is going to look awful. All I can picture is that legacy with a saturn front end that's on cardomain.

Your car, your choice. I just think it's going to be a subaru with an identity crisis and no re-sale value.

I'm glad to see you've stripped your car.

Let's begin.... Shall we?

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/06/CIMG00981-1.jpg

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/06/CIMG0104-1.jpg

And then the "I told you so."

I believe you could do it, just not in a simple bolt on and go. Some brackets will have to be made for both the fender and bumper cover, not to mention trimming of the fenders and hood. I guess those of us that are supposedly "against" you, are just perfectionists, 'cause the only concern that is common is the overall bodylines when this is done.

...try to line the doors up to the fenders.

Now do you believe me when I told you I've tried this before?
P.S.

Oh yeah
And make up your mind

and il be keeping my legacy front end. so no pms asking how much for what.

does anyone want my old front end?? PM me.
hood, bumper,JDM headlights, jdm fogs, bumper beam, fenders

... building something fr4om the ground up and using wrx lights?? thats called rice.
And then...

as for a spoiler i have a spoon sports wing for a EG civic that were gunna try and fit..

Just kiddin....A little motivation :smt023

Stevie Wonder can see you probably don't have the place to store more parts. PM me if you have any questions. There are some ways around some of the hard stuff, but try NOT to cut corners. I think it'll come out nice in the end with some time and patience.

Wait til you get to the fender trimming and welding part. :smt029

It's not that hard "IF" you know how to weld. Some people here, don't.

There are some brackets that you're gonna need to make for the fenders to attach where the headlight is as well. Going liner-less too I hope. How's the windshield lining up so far?

I know I don't have much (...any?) commentary on this, but seriously man, I'd suggest finishing A (as in singular, uno, less than two, great than zero...etc) project before jumping into another crazy time consuming one.

Yes i'm sure many of us, myself included, have spewed out hopes, dream, and pictures of what we want to do, but if it doesn't work out we give up, and stop saying it'll happen.

What happened to the guy who was going to do the fiberglass and finish it up?

Your proposed progress line:

Buy Old STi and do some crazy stuff to it (status: aborted)
Use parts from above and make a crazy wagon (status: uhhhhh)
(crazy thoughts here)
Buy Camero (status: aborted??)
Work on legacy (status uhhhh?)
Buy two Miatas and do crazy things to them (status....??)

ALL IN THIS THREAD!!

Man, I know i'm sounds like a complete dick, but just pick SOMETHING and finish it, people like progress and it seems like you have a handful of fans who want to see something happen with...something.
