View Full Version : PCM swap, scanner won't read it.

I swapped my '97 BD MT PCM into my '98 BK AT (swapped to MT) in hopes it would just plug and play and maybe turn off my CEL for the trans code I had.
Apparantly the ground for the AT/MT identifier is in the harness not the PCM, because when I plugged in the PCM it started and ran fine the first time, but then the CEL came back on, like it was with the '98 PCM.
I'm assuming it's the trans code but I went to scan it with our generic Matco scanner and I kept getting a communication error. Car runs and drives just like it did before, except the idle jumps up to a little over 2000RPM when first started.

I ran out of time, but should I just put the '98 PCM back in and ground the pin and be done with it?

I just want to turn off the CEL so my cruise works.....

But why will the '97 PCM not work in the '98 as far as being able to be scanned??

The 98 PCM should run the M/T just fine as long as you ground the AT/MT identifier wire.

And simply turning off the CEL won't make your cruise work. There is more to it than that.
