Ok. long sotry short. My 98 GT blew a head and gasket. I had a friend help me grab a motor from a 99 outback. The heads needed to be replaced so we sent them to a very respectful machine shop where the guy who did them was a specialist with Subarus and know the ins and outs.

the heads were acid cleaned, new insides and given back. We put the Heads back onto the 99 2.5 and put the engine in. the intake and ECU and all electronics are a 98gt.

There has been a constant CEL (PO302, PO301, PO304) going from drivers side (#2). Back over to passenger side (#1) and not it switched sides to (#2, #4). Now when I turn it on it idles at about 750 and drives fine. Only it is blinking with (PO302, PO304). we have checked the following.

Wires,
Plugs,
coil pack,
Injectors (swapped them from side to side with the codes not following).
compression (1-160, 2-160, 3-160, 4-135). My friend said that it is not low enough to throw a code and not to worry about it.

Any ideas? :smt027

Isn't '98 DOHC, while 99 is 'SOHC? Or Phase 1/Phase 2? I don't recall exactly, but I seem to remember my '98 and hellaGT's '99 being different in one of those areas.

yea. the legacies, and outbacks were still DOHC in 99. Impretza (spelling like how the brits say it) and Foresters were SOHC.
