ok so i have keyless. program button is MIA

the car is a 99 L Anniversary Edition 5 speed. i do know that the car has a factory alarm system but I am not sure if the car also came with a keyless entry module. I tried looking under the dash, around the steering column. I could only find what I assume is the alarm module. There were 2 connectors that weren't plugged into anything; one was white and had maybe 8 pins (but im not totally sure) and there was also a black colored connector unplugged.

Am I safe in assuming this car only has a factory alarm but not a keyless system? If this is the case, which remote do I need to purchase? I hate to ask such a n00b question, but I want to have some kind of remote for this alarm system ASAP.

When searching for the keyless module, what exactly am I looking for?

alarm is the retangle. other one is just for keyless

I have to clean the battery terminals but i wanted to make sure i have a remote for the alarm before i disconnect the battery

I searched through the forum a bit and then did some snooping around in my car.

There's no program/valet button. I couldn't find nothing. Is there an other spot where it could be mounted? I was prodding up there for 15 minutes trying to locate the button.

yes it's under the steering column. I just removed the plastic panel and i found it in plain sight

i hate to bump an old thread but as of today I STILL HAVEN'T FOUND THIS DAMN BUTTON! I'm beyond pissed off! I have now spent a total of 12 f'n hours fisting the under side my dash in hopes of finding the damn program button.

It is not located where it is supposed to be (by the hood release). There is only one brown wire exiting the keyless module (I was told to trace out 2 brown wires coming from the module and I would find it) and it cannot be traced out because every single wire is wrapped in electrical tape. I'm getting fed the F up with this issue, I'm ready to shell out the money for a dealership to find it.

is there anywhere else I should be looking?

Also, is it possible that this car has the Alpine alarm? Cars101.com notes that 99 Legacy's could have had either. The Alpine system does not have/need a button to program the remotes which would explain why i can't find the damn button in the first place

This car will chirp the horn once when I lock all the doors (open driver's door, power lock the doors, exit vehicle, slam door, then it honks). Is this a characteristic of the Code Alarm system?

I've read that page a thousand times, as well as the owner's manual. the manual nor that site describes how to disable the alarm without the remote. The manual states that I have to disable the alarm system with the remote before attempting to program a new remote. The manual only describes how to disable the alarm should it go off and the transmitter is not working. I am not having this problem.

I think the alarm is in valet mode, but the horn will still honk once when i lock all 4 doors with the door switch upon exiting the vehicle. It does not honk at all when unlocking the doors.

I dunno WTF to do. I really don't want to take the car to a dealership :smt010

the reason you can't find the button is because there isn't one for the Alpine alarm. You program remotes via this method. You're lucky - your remotes are cheap to buy. I have the code alarm and they're much more expensive

7. Alarm goes off?
Push the small button on the remote
OVERRIDING the alarm when you don't have a Remote to disable it.
If you don't have the remote put the key in the ignition and turn it on and off three times and the car will start on the 4th time

8. Program remotes: works on Alpine system.

Unlock all doors, foot on brake, all doors closed. Cycle key quickly but carefully on-off appr 10 times until the car honks one time.
Do not turn the key far enough to start the car, just to the 'on' position so the dashboard lights up.

When the horn honks, open and close the driver's door, press any remote button and that's it.
Program another remote? Quickly open and close the driver's door again and push a button on the 2nd remote. That's it.

When you're done, remove the key and the horn should honk 3 times. You're all set.
Sometime it takes more than 10 on-offs to set program mode. Open/close the door, lock/unlock etc, wait 10 minutes, then try again.

I have a 97 LGT with an alarm sticker and led but no fobs. I can only assume I have keyless as well?

IIRC the first remote is used for 98 or 99+. The two years of this gen that use the Alpine unit. But it appears that this thread differs.

It is legitimate since it's worked for so many others. My car seems to be very quirky.
