Dirty Engine

I recently took my legacy off roading after ten days of straight rain, everything was muddy it was sweet but my engine has a significant amount of mud that kicked up into it.. i want to wash it all out and have it looking nice again. or would this be a no no because i know that it can damage the parts of the engine. Ive read other fourms telling me to cover up this and that but i want to hear it from subie owners what should i cover up and use on this filthy engine??

I pressure wash my frequently. Just wrap your battery, alternator and other electrical components. Spray Mean Green all over and hose it down really good. Let it air dry or blow dry and use some of those spray on wax for engine dressing.

i dont cover anything but my intake pipe end. i wait tell them motor is cool. i jack the front of the car up(to get the underside of the motor). spray purple power or engine bright cleaner, than use the pressure washer(dont get to close to the maf or map). i never had a problem. after i was it i run it for about 20-30 min make sure everything is dry. than i spray engine deatailer wait 20 than run it for 20. after that i wipe all the extra deatailer off and im done.

I have been doing this for years. I wrap the air filter/MAF (I have short rams on both cars) and I will wrap the alternator (not sure why, I just do). Then I spray Simple Green liberally all over and wipe it around on any areas that look like they need some elbow grease, then spray with the powerwasher. Repeat if necessary. Its pretty easy. Simple Green is a fantastic product.

I never understood why people wrap the alternator.

On my DSM, the alternator was by the bottom of the engine bay and when it rained that thing would get soaked.. the only thing I was ever told to wrap on a subaru was the Igniter that sits at the fire wall (has a harness attaching to the coil.) :smt023

cool i washed it today and covered the altenator and battery but next time ill wrap that up but it came out pretty nice considering it was the first time ive attempted this :lol:
