Hey all, I was searching for parts on subaruproparts.com and noticed that a battery tie down is around $45 bucks, I almost considered getting one but I wasn't to found of the color. So I decided to restore my own and save a lot more money.
Tools you'll need:
Pliers
WD40
Steel Wool (very coarse)
Sand Paper (220 grit)
Spray Paint (Krylon Fusion Metallic)
I started off by spraying the tie-down with WD40 to remove some corrosion, then I took it off of the battery.
This is what it looked like:

Then you scrub the hell out of the tie-down with steel wool. It took me 20 minutes or so. If there is any corrosion that is really staying on, douse it with more WD40 and scrub. From there take it to the sink and wash it down with some dishwashing thick type soap. Now you essentially repeat what you've done with the sandpaper, though not as frantic, sand in one direction and try to take as much rust and crap off. The more rust you can remove the better. Once its smoothed out completely, wash it down again. (I know repetive and seems like overkill but its worth it) Now its time to paint. Spray the bottom first so that if any paint drips down it will smooth back out when you spray the top (the side everyone will see) Spray at least five coats of paint, I did about ten. The paint I used was Krylon Fusion True Blue Metallic Spray Paint, the stuff is great. :smt023
Final Result:

This is my first DIY forum, hope it was close to par.. :smt024
