I called a few places, one place said $250 CAD for an Exedy OEM clutch replacement (KSB04) and another shop said $340.. even though the $340 shop said they can price match the $250.

Is that a good price for the OE replacement?? Never bought a clutch before.. so no idea.. the Stage 1 is going for $500

i paid a grand for my clutch set up, also an extra 450 when subaru screwed my clutch up. i got a spec clutch. i do have a 05 n/a flywheel with a exedy clutch. i could take it apart and see it its good. i beleive it will work in your car if you want it.

I would say that if the $340 shop said they can price match the $250 then $250 is the right price. ;)

JD - if you can squeeze it, get the lighter flywheel combo...

I was reading about that and honestly.. I don't want to deal with it.. I'd like my car completely stock, this way it can be used as my winter beater when I get the 2005 LGT Wagon in a couple of years

That's also why I skipped the cams.. just want my car running solid for a few years to come.. maybe it's the old age?

Ehhhh, those parts are just as durable as the stockers. The cams are regrinds, they just grind your cam to a more aggressive profile. The flywheel will actually lengthen the life of the car due to the lessening of rotational mass = less effort by the crank to spin it.

Getting old? Sell that bike and buy a Chrysler Sebring. :P

lol.. damn you Roger, you never let up! I already sold the bike last week actually :P

As tempting as all that sounds.. it costs money and I don't want to spend anymore money than I have too. I already spent $1000 on getting all the rust off my car and repainting it. This engine build is already costing me a bit too.

$620 for the engine
$250 for reconditioned heads
$325 for headgasket overhaul kit
$250 for clutch/pressure plate

Then I still have to pay labour for putting it together. In the end I think I'll be spending $3000 total on a car that's only worth about $4000. If it wasn't for my bike and my side photography gigs, I'd be so screwed right now! So cams, flywheel, more horsepower/whatever is way out of the question cause that costs more money :smt005

You should know me by now, I'm always building the car I want through other people.

New paint huh? Full recolor or just touchups?

I still think you should have kept the other engine and had the heads worked over. There was probably nothing wrong with the block.
Ah well. Time will tell, eh?

Almost all new paint except the passenger side. Did both rear quarter panels, the driver side door, trunk and spoiler. Rust was taking over!

There probably is nothing wrong with the block, but my regular subaru mechanic didn't have the time to work on my car and my friend said he wouldn't be able to help me unless he charges me for shop time which is understandable.

Either way, I would have spent money on labour or an engine. I can work on the engine outside of my car and take my old engine out and swap bits and parts without taking up a bay and then when it's all assembled, I can throw it in and he won't have to lose a bay. This was the best I feel, plus I get a baby block that will last me even longer.

I only wanted to keep this car for a couple more years but now with this engine swap, I think my car will last me a few years and I can't still get my LGT Wagon and keep this car as a winter beater!
