Whats the most you guys have towed with your legacys?

I really want to know what would be involved in making the MOST of our towing capacity.... maybe I'm crazy but could I ever tow my Impreza SAFELY with my legacy ??

i saw a forester towing a impreza. i wouldnt reccomend doing it, suspesions would bottom out and 1 1/4 tounges really dont support more the 1,250 pound gross weight

Well, I've heard people on NASTYSOCK tow a Subie with a Subie, but I wouldn't suggest it with your Legacy unless: It's got a 4EAT with a substantially larger transmission cooler upgrade, and a FI motor. You will obviously need trailer brakes and a trailer brake controller in the car.

If you're going to go a short distance to the track and back, maybe going 35-45 mph tops, on flat roads, then go for it. If you're going to be going up I5, 65+ mph up the max allowable grades (as well as down) in the continental US, then you might run into some serious problems.

One person on NASTYSOCK was towing with a Baja Turbo, and kept the poor thing at 10+ PSI of boost for hours at a time. :smt009 Gotta use SUPER high quality oil for that kind of abuse.

IIRC you cant tow more than 2000lbs with a 4EAT, don't even attempt it with a manual.

Remember, if towing above your vehicle's capacity, and you get into an accident, your insurance won't cover you. Don't be foolish and use a vehicle ill-equipped for pulling loads you shouldn't be pulling. Saying "if you only go x distance or x speed and you'll be fine" isn't wise information. Granted, people are going to do what they're going to do, and probably get away with it, but sometimes it's just not worth the risk.

but in all seriousness our cars arent designed to handle there own weight in a trailer

I think it was on NASIOC someone posted a picture of a red WRX towing something that was too heavy I can't remember if the front end was raised up or it was sagging really bad.

HAHA, i've been there! 2 people in the car. going uphill on the interstate. straight into some extreme wind. acceleration pedal fully depressed. barely did 65mph LOL

I pulled the soon to be brother in laws chevy 2500 out of ditch this past winter.!

it was friggin funny as hell. My car is perfectly fine!

Back on topic, I wonder how much a BK weighs wihout the front end, forward of the A-pillar - just cut it front of the firewall. I had an idea...

Most I've pulled, and only this one time, was a Jetta TDI stuck in the mud off the side of the road; no tow, just a pull.

I once had an '86 single cam 1.8L GTI pull MY legacy out of the mud. That was interesting, and kinda embarrasing. Anyway.
