Whenever it seems to rain for two days like it has my radio fails to turn on no power is going to the harness but say I get back into the car after it has stopped raining for 24 hours the radio works fine and I did not loose any settings like the clock or my presets.

I checked my fuses (I don't understand why the radio has a tap) but it's driving me nuts without having a radio.

Is this when your wipers are on? Or is it as soon as it starts raining with nothing on but the keys in the "accessory" position?

nope not when the wipers are on and not when it starts raining.. it seems to happen when it rains for 48 hours

What happens (how I find out)

the radio just wont turn on period... however going out this morning like today the radio turns on fine and no settings were lost.

I'm just as confused :smt017

Factory radio?

Or is this aftermarket with some wiring going through the firewall and getting moisture in somewhere?

It's a Alpine 9856 the radio that was in the car BEFORE I brought this car had some pioneer double Din installed with some type of hack job... I've never seen a radio needing to tap off a fuse to run..

Having said that driving this morning radio working fine but when I hit a pot hole the radio went off then came back on.. so something between the tap and the power to the radio is loose and I would not doubt that moisture has been taking it out.

I just don't know why one would need a tap for the radio when it has it's own fuse..

My guess is that someone cut the factory wires in order to install the headunit.

My advice:

If this is so, go to the salvage yard and get the factory harness 1st. Then go to Autozone/Advanced Autoparts and get a harness adapter (Under $20) and re-install both. It might be a start, but should clear up some of the issues.

I've had a few set ups in my car for over 4 years and haven't experienced 1 problem with my stereo or the wiring. It's cleaner and easier to troubleshoot if you did have a problem.

funny thing is the factory harness is where the radio is in the place where the radio sits.. So you are saying it's between the factory harness? I'd have to trace the wires back to see today if it's not going to storm.

Do you mean no one cut the original harness or did they, and left it behind?

No I'm saying the factory harness is still in the car but I don't know if it's been spliced someplace along the way AWAY from the radio. Someone did a hack job under the steering column I would guess the head unit harness runs that way as well?

This is BS.. So I go and take out the radio.. the harness is fine but how the wiring is it goes up and what seems to be under the passenger side airbag.. I would doubt anyone would do anything that high up..

I will have to check with the other radio I have my Alpine might be going on the fritz I can't tell right now I have the panel under the steering wheel off and I can't find any intermittent connections.

This is driving me crazy.

So was talking on USMB and I was told to check the blue/red wire and checked it to the ground I got 12.6V however I don't know but the red ignition wire to the ground with the key to On gave me 0V

A update right after work I took the radio out and started checking again So I touched the Power wire for the radio wire harness and that's when the radio turned back on.. so unsure what side it was on I finally narrowed it down to the harness i brought.

I guess moving to 3 different cars was too much for it
