What should I buy for front rotors?

MY front rotors are about beat on my BD and I am looking to replace them soon. Since I autocross, I would like to upgrade a little bit. Any suggestions for rotors and/or pads? I'm not looking to change calipers, etc. Just better than OEM.

Is this a deal worth doing? Is R1 a "real" company? It would be nice to get everything as a package deal.

You get what you pay for. With that said, I have a full set of rotors from R1 with no problems however.

i would suggest Blanks matched with Hawk pads and a flushing of the fluid w/ new Synthetic DOT 4 in there to get you started.

R1 Concepts have good deals, I bought my set from the website, they usually have package deals, They sell IIRC Hawk and Axxis pads, Axxis being the cheaper of the too.

For fluid get Valvoline DOT4, it's the best bang for your buck. And get BFGoodrich SS Lines, or similar.

Not meaning to high jack but what can I get for my 2001 Subaru Outback with 11.4 inch rotors in front, that's aggressive but good for the street and doesn't cost as much as the Hawk HPS or HP+ pads? So far I have found the Axxis Ultimate pads around 60 bucks shipped for the front.

I too will vouch for R1 rotors, as my friend has them on his 2006 passat wagon for about a year and a half, and has had no issues at all

How much is your safety worth? If the pads exceed factory, it might be worth it to save a couple more dollars and get the better performing pads.... especially if you work them hard every now and then. JMHO.

Put that $150 you were going to blow on brake ducts and put them down on some decent pads for your touge runs. :roll:

Eh... I was just thinking about it, I haven't really committed to it at all.

Well you should if you really are experiencing fade on your runs. Upgrading your pads that is. I may add even just getting a more aggressive pad in the rear...didn't you have some generic centric oe replacements or something?...will shift your brake bias slightly to the rear, thus taking off some load from the front brakes and more evenly distributing the heat youre generating from braking. Axxis ultimates are a good pad to use on the rear for this purpose.

Also, plain old blank rotors from NAPA or autozone will be perfectly fine; theyre the best bang for your money as far as rotors go.

The R1/ebay crossdrilled/slotted rotors, while they look nice, don't really do anything to actually 1) reduce your brake distances or 2) keeping the brakes cool. The slots keep the brake pad surface cleaner at the expense of increased pad wear but it's not really that significant unless your car sees a lot of dirt. So your paying extra for cosmetic changes, basically.

Yeah I got R1 crossdrilled/slotted rotors a good while back, they do hold up pretty well, and I will be going back to solid rotors when I need to. And for Brake pads I have the Centric Premium Semi-Metallic pads. Currently I have the Ultimates for the Front I'll have to pick up something else for the rear sometime, what should I do for the rear since I have the ultimates already for the front?

I found some Hawk ceramics on clearance for the front of my car. Would I be better off running with ceramics or the HPS?

I have plain $25 Autozone rotors. They work fine. I read somewhere that a lot of Miata people have had success tracking these.

I know a few c5 corvette guys that track their cars use these rotors too.
