Buring Oil?

Last month I smelled burning oil but could not locate a leak. I checked the oil level and it was fine so I kept driving. The smell was off and on more noticeble in the garage after a drive. Over the weekend I was cleaning the engine area and decided to check the dip stick and it was a really low. I drove the car directly to the oil change place and got an oil change since I was at 3k miles. They said there was a really tiny leak but didn't know where. I have never sdeen any oil spots in my garage.

Is this the end of the road for my car? What could be the problem and what's it going to cost to fix? Will it be better to get rid of before it get worse?

It's a 2001 Legacy L Wagon with about 105k on it

mine smells hot too, its got a leak somewhere(everywhere?) that drips onto the exhaust when driving, to the point where its noticably smokey above 70MPH or so.

never left a spot on the driveway, but damn its irritating seeing smoke come out of the back while driving.

and it always smells hot....

maybe get some UV dye and put it in your oil to try to locate the leak? or just pull the motor and replace all the seals, wich is what im prepping to do.

Would any of the above drain most of the oil in 3000 miles between oil changes? I don't think I've seen smoke but I guess I'll have to someone follow me one day.

Nope no spots. I'll have to check it once a week up until the next oil change. It's boggles my mind how I can lose this much oil and not see any spots.

Yes, it's a goner. The value in that car just went through the floor, so you best sell it to me for $200.

Seriously? You're going to have to get under the car and get some more information about where it's leaking from. And never trust a quick-oil change place.

oil seperator plates are behind the flywheel/driveplate, there covers for getting access to the wrist pin's to split the engine,

I'd check for discoloration on the manifold/exhaust and see where it's burning off from, and trace up from there.\

Any smoke at all from the exhaust?

longshot on that engine, but it could be the cam seals as well.

when you get under the car look at the crossmember, it might just be collecting there.

also check your headgaskets, as they leak oil too.
